Colored frames: Opinions and Post pictures please.

No real application IMHO except looking cool. If you just want something that blended well and didn't stick out the black frames do that just fine, and if the desire is to actually improve the looks, OD green/tan etc don't do for me. Purple, blue, orange? Sure. Heck I've heavily contemplated getting my the frame on the M&P that I use for competition durakoted in purple (and the slide hard-chromed) just for style, but the "military" colors are boring for me. There's a reason it's called Olive "Drab" .

All I have is a basic OD Green and black Springfield Armory 1911 MC Operator. In my eyes, all the OD green frame does is set the gun apart visually from the all black guns. Personally, the only OD/ black combo that's ever really floored me is the black slide over OD green frame on the Wilson Combat 1911s when mated with Wilson's black and grey diamondwood checkered grips. The OD lower just doesn't look as good with black rubber or G10 grips. Just my opinion.

i like OD green on my glocks, as in my opinion, they blend in better with clothing than their black counterparts. So for instance, if my shirt rides up and the grip becomes exposed, it looks less like a gun to casual observers.

Is there any whatsoever practical application to this?

If you've ever looked at different colored items through an infrared viewing device, darker items appear more prominent (yes even at the same temperature).

If you've ever picked up a black/blued gun that's been out in the (AZ) sun and then picked up a light colored (call it stainless) gun and compared the burns they gave you I think you'd find the SS burn not quite as severe.

Sure they have applications! And some of them look cool.

Being from the Pittsburgh area and an especially big Pirate fan, I've always wanted a black & gold pistol... Or perhaps one in other color(s) I like. However, I won't touch an OD Green or desert tan. I don't see any practical application, nothing really worth it, anyway, and I personally think they're ugly. I usually wear mostly black, so I generally just prefer black polymer/blued for carry.

Yes...OD Glocks look different depending on what kind of light (Yellow Spectrum) they are photographed in.

I don't know of any "practical" reason for one, but it definitely looks nicer than all black. Especially on blocky looking guns like Glocks and XDs. The two colors break up the monotony and make them look leaner and meaner.

Colored frames?... dunno about that but here's one of my frames of color.

I like two colors on motorcycles and pistols, silver and black.

Aren't those desert tan and not OD?

I like a variety of colors in my pistols, and welcome the OD and DT colors.

I really like the pink anodized snubbed revolver that someone posted a picture of a few days ago. And the Sig P239 with the rainbow slide.

In some circumstances there could be a practical, concealment purpose for colored guns -- if the gun and holster were matched to the color of one's customary clothing it would aid in concealment.

I'd like to have a white version of my Slim because, even with a white bellyband covering much of it, the black gun shadows through my light-colored blouses. A white tank or camisole with a white bellyband looks like ordinary underwear for modesty beneath a light blouse -- except that the black gun shadows through if you look for it. But a black tank and black bellyband make it clear that there is SOMETHING other than standard underwear there even if the gun itself is not shadowing.

Outside the practical realm, if I had the money I would like to have a dedicated range gun in a soft rose-pink (not the Pepto-pink or Barbie-pink that has become common in women's gear), just because it would be pretty. Do I need a reason for my gun to be pretty any more than I need a reason for my clothes to be pretty?
