I jusrt read a post on a differnt forum that stated Most people that have a CCW rarely carry. That hasn't been my experience so I thought I'd ask

100% where legal.

But in my experience (including as an instructor talking with quite a few people wanting to get a permit or who have one), most people with a permit don't actually carry.

I'd say it's a small fraction, <10%, of people with a permit who actually use it regularly. A small fraction of that fraction actually get anything close to decent training and also make an effort to keep up their skills as well as they should.

I voted less than 25%. All about location. Previous area I lived more like 75% of the time. Just not necessary since my last move.

Is this time-wise or location-wise? Where's the option between 75% and 100%?

Time-wise between work and sleep turns out to be much less than location-wise.

I'm guessing it means outside the home. That's just a guess. I don't carry inside the home, but I have a gun hidden in every room that I have quick access to (no kids, so I don't worry about a kid finding it). I don't carry to work (work on federal property), but I do carry everywhere else.

My parents got a CCW permit not so they could carry, but so they could get the other benefits, such as: no waiting period to purchase a handgun, less restrictions on how you can transport in a vehicle, etc.

Well, I voted 100 percent, but actually I carry about 90 percent. Sometimes I just don't bother. ATMs are where you'll need to carry the most. I ALWAYS carry there.

I'm in the 99th percentile. I've mowed the lawn armed. I've changed diapers armed. I was armed at the birth of each of my kids. You get the picture.

But of all the people that I know, who have obtained a carry permit, I think only one, maybe two or three actually carry at all. A very few carry on a rare occasion; sort of like wearing pearl cufflinks.

One guy told me, and he was completely honest when he said it, that he only got the permit so that he'd have another document stating that he can own a gun.

For some reason, most of the people around me who start blabbing about having acquired a carry permit will say that they got the permit "just in case", referring to some sort of future gun control.

People seem to treat their carry permit more like a FOID card. Don't ask me to explain that.

I voted 50-75 because while carry isn't illegal where I work it is prohibited and I do like my job. I also don't carry while I am at the gym, but any other time I am not in my apartment and even most times when I am I do carry.

I chose the 100% option, even though I carry probably closer to 95% when allowed. I say "allowed" since my employer has a no guns policy. Outside of work, I almost always carry.

Since I don't carry at work due to company policy, I'm armed less than 25% of the time I am out of the house. If you don't count my time at work it would be greater than 90%.

The only place I don't carry when I leave my house is to work, as I work unarmed security and it's a rather big deal to NOT be licensed to carry on the job, and if I'm going to the airport for a vacation, since I cant carry through TSA.

That's not an exaggeration, that's just how much I carry, figure I'll never know if I'll need it, so no reason not to have it.

I would suggest to the OP that you're probably going to get different results here than you would in a more generic poll in a setting that doesn't just include gun nuts.

I voted 100%, and I actually carry 100%. I carry in my home, at work, etc. when I was hired at my most recent job, I carefully checked for firearms related policy, prohibition, etc. There are none to be found.

My reason for carrying so frequently is simple: I understand that violence is an intruder, not a host. It doesn't live in a particular part of town, and it doesn't always knock.

There have been two murders in the clean & quiet suburb where my parents live, in the past 6 months. I live one town over, in an even 'safer' town. There was a very violent double homicide in the kitchen of a nice house, in a quiet neighborhood here.

I am sure that all of the victims felt safe in their quiet neighborhoods.

Crazy is hard for sane people to predict.

Voted for between 25% and 50%.

This is because I never carry to work (against policy) but almost always carry when I am out and about, unless I plan to go somewhere where it is illegal, or if I plan on imbibing more than 1 drink.

The only time I carry is in the woods or when I'm headed to the range. Trout fishing in the Adirondacks, coyote hunting in the woods. No reason to carry otherwise. Can't go through life thinking some thug is right around the corner waiting to steal your wallet. Pretty sad...

I carry less than 25% of the time overall. That's because I'm a student and I can't carry at school.

Now if we're talking about when it's legal to carry, it's >95% of the time.
