New GP100!

That is a great choice. The GP100 is the best value in 357 mid frame revolvers. I have owned two and they are great for shooting 357 magnums. Whether you get some action work done depends on the revolver. One of my GP100 needed the action work but the other one was fine out of the box new. I would put some rounds through it before making the decision.

It was designed to be such and I believe, succeeds beyond expectations.

Congrats on the new GP! A tank of a weapon. Shoot the heck out of it. The more you shoot it the smoother it will become. Some brands will shoot "loose" over time, but Rugers have a tendency to shoot "smooth" over time.

I was not being rude and I'm sorry you feel I was being rude. I really thought you would have been better served by asking what other shooters thought about a specific revolver before you bought it. How is that being rude?

Yeah, lighten up some AA...he says he was at a gun show when he bought it, I doubt that would allow much time to post this before he bought it.

He's obviously tickled with his new score and likes the warm and fuzziness of favorable reinforcement feedback....and it appears to be overwhelming, cept for yours.

A wonderful range toy and hammer rolled into one.

I've got a 6" in Stainless and love it. I load up some pretty stout .357 loads and it puts them right where I want them. Shooting .38s in it feels like a .22.

I'm a huge fan of the 4" or 6" .357 Magnum and while I prefer a S&W M686 I can't find anything wrong with a GP100. I'm sure you will enjoy the heck out of shooting that revolver...

I have a 4" SS GP100 and I love it. I enjoy shooting hot magnum loads and it is also fun with lighter plinking loads. Mine came with the original grips with the wood insert and I added a set of Hogues. (I prefer the look of the original grips and so it usually wears those.)

As for the trigger, I have read dozens (probably hundreds) of posts about the heavy or poor trigger pull in double action of the GP100. While my revolver's trigger pull is a little heavier than my brother's 686 I simply think that the trigger pull is on par with the overall design and robust nature of the gun itself. Thus I have have no desire to modify the trigger pull in any way other than what happens naturally as a result of shooting it.

Congratulations on your gun show score! I passed on a 6" model last week that was posted on a local gun board for $360 (gulp, I wish that I had had the extra cash on hand as that was a smoking deal).

Great buy! My wife gave me a 6" GP100 for my birthday and it's awesome. Every bit as accurate and a good of a trigger as my buddies 686. Built like a tank.

Well, I had an early one and found it a big step backward from my Security Six. But they've probably changed tooling, employees and manufacturing procedures several times over between then and now. Based on the enthusiasm in this thread, I may start looking for another.
