I have one of the original XD Tactical models in 9mm that I have been shooting for a while and have been quite happy with it. Then in February I won a new XDM 9mm and it has since become my car gun, 19+1 rounds just seems comforting. I had been thinking about a new pistol for IDPA/3 gun shooting since I am at a disadvantage with the .40 I usually shoot, more recoil just leads to slightly lower split times no matter how accurate the pistol.

I had been thinking about one of these for a while but had not got to hold one until yesterday. Academy Sports had them on sale and happened to have one in stock. This is the 9mm, 5.25" barrel, lightened slide, adjustable rear and fiber optic front site, and comes with 3 mags plus double mag holder and holster. I'm going to shoot this a few weeks to get the trigger broke in and then decide if I want to switch to the Springer Precision trigger kit. It's really just for range use and shooting games.

The guns are neat, I dislike the "lightening" cut in the slide. I get the usefulness but outside of range use it has no real benefits.

I love the XDM and have two of the 4.5 models (.40S&W and 9x19) and think they're great guns. The only gun I have that can outshoot my XDM's is my CZ75B.

I have the 4.5 in .45 ACP. IT's a tackdriver and I can highly recommend the PRP trigger kit. I put mine in as soon as I bought the pistol as I had previous experience with an XD TAC in .40 S&W. ;)

I am saving up to buy the XDm in 9mm to let my students use if they don't have a pistol. My XDm 3.8 compact in .40 has been phenominal. The only potential malfunction that gun has had was a fail to fire while my friend's wife was shooting it and I am 99.99% certain that it was bacause she wasn't gripping it correctly and the grip safety was not engaging. Unfortunately my friend got to her before I did and did a Tap-Rack and handed it back to her so I'll never know for certain if it was gun or shooter but my suspicions are extremely high it was her.

Houston, we have no problem! Not in Brownwood anyway. See if you can find me on that big map of Texas. We call it heart of Texas here, but we're not the only town to make such a claim. As it happens, I was raised in Houston.

Kiln, get and install a PRP trigger kit. It will at least give the CZ 75 a run for it's money if not actually exceeding it. Just go back from the range and my 4.5 in .45 ACP continues to amaze as does my shooting partners recently purchased XDm 4.5 in 9mm which is soon to get a PRP trigger kit. ;)

The trigger kit is a little out of my price range, I don't shoot competitions or else I'd probably get one. For me, the stock trigger is more than acceptable and actually is one of the best triggers I've ever felt. I was just saying that of stock triggers, my CZ75B had a better one.

Well for a little update. I've been in East Africa on business for a bit so haven't had time to shoot it as much as I would like. Now keep in mind it's just a competition gun for me so that's how I evaluate it.

I haven't kept any targets for it, but I will in the future, shooting at 10 yards it's a little more accurate than my 4.5" XDm. I average about 2" with the 4.5" model and with a variety of ammo the 5.25" seems to shoot around 1.5". I know that's no good compared to the pistoleros here but that's why I gave up bullseye shooting 20 years ago, just not steady enough anymore.

The sights are excellent for competition shooting, the fiber optic front really stands out nicely. Among different ammo I've shot in it I tried some 147gr. WWB ammo and it really liked that, very soft shooting, I was really surprised at how much it seemed to change the feel of the pistol. And finally, I am going to go ahead and get the Springer Precision trigger kit, I just feel the trigger pull on this one is a little long and about 1 lb too heavy for a competition only pistol. If it was going to be a carry gun I would leave it as is though.

Well Powder, keep in mind different people have different desires in a match trigger. I'm used to shooting a Witness Elite Match which has about as good a factory single action trigger as you will ever find, 2.5 pounds and crisp as breaking glass. Compared to that the XDM is long and heavy, if you compare it to a production Glock etc. then it's just fine as is. I will say that a great many competition shooters have aftermarket triggers in their Glocks also, the same goes for CZ and most other brands.

A $700 "Match" gun needs a new trigger?

How much is the "precision" trigger kit?
The XDM's trigger isn't bad at all, but for some reason I get better accuracy from the CZ75B. For me, the XDM 4.5 is extremely accurate, good enough for a duty gun for sure and can hold its own in competitions too.

I would imagine the newer XDM is even better with the longer barrel.

Lots of people add aftermarket parts to all sorts of different firearms. Even the Browning Buckmark, often praised for the great stock trigger, has lots of people who mod it.
