This is not about gun control, this is about Government Control. We citizens scare them and they want to "fix" that... make your stand now through the political channels or face worse in the future!!!

Luckily we know from the past that the President pledging his "full weight" to do something rarely goes beyond the statement. He will once again use his "leading from behind" strategy so that he will not be exposed to any criticism or held responsible when their chosen actions don't work and the unintended consequences (or in this guy's case intended) wreck the country.

I remember those posters too. Makes me so angry people that disconnected from reality can be members of this forum.

Hope for the best but prepare for the worst. People are very good at convincing themselves that they don't need to do anything by finding bits of data that confirm their own bias. For the past few years, folks were complacent with the idea that a guy with a vocal track record of being anti-gun would never go after guns. ALL politicians wait for the right opportunity to spring these things into action. How do you think we passed the Patriot Act? People were sure Romney would win the election, by a landslide no less. People are absolutely sure of something until reality suggested otherwise and gave them a rude awakening.

The political landscape is always changing. It only took one key event to bring the gun issue back to the top. An impossibility can become an implausibility, and an implausibility can become a guarantee in a perfect storm. If there are any other mass shootings in the following months of a similar nature to CT (very young children, school, etc), then you can be sure that support for a new AWB would be even stronger.

Take the few minutes to call, write, or email your Senators and Reps. If they get enough volume, their staffers will inform them that their seat is in jeopardy if they jump on a gun ban.

He's pandering to his political, far left base. It doesn't matter if nothing comes of it. If no legislation gets passed he can blame the Republicans, and his base will still love him for "trying". If another mass shooting happens, he can blame the Republicans, and pro-gun the lobby.

Meanwhile, in Democrat controlled cities with gun bans and restrictive gun laws thousands are murdered with handguns per year, many of "child" age, and Obama and his minions don't talk about it.

Yeah, but he is pretty skinny.

It's not going to get through the House.

I agree with posts 4 and 9. I think he is really annoyed that he is now forced to confront this issue. He wanted to spend his political capital in other places. I think that putting Joe Biden in charge of the committee was done to kick the can down the road and ensure that he can stall the process until the fervor has died down, and then say; "Well I tried, but the republicans wouldn't let me."

He has always wanted to ban guns. If he wanted to make it a priority, he would have pushed a new AWB when he had control of both houses. Now that he doesn't, he has other battles to fight.

It's not going to get through the House.

This is the case on numerous gun boards.

I find it funny that now that their Manchurian Candidate has revealed himself, these cheerleaders are strangely silent.

The president eluded to additonal gun legislation during the presidential debates but wasn't going into any detail and wouldn't play it up because he knew it would cost him votes. Feinstein has been working her bill for over a year. Sad and sick as it sounds, an incident like the Sandy Hook shooting is what they were waiting for, just like surfers waiting for a wave. They plan to ride this wave of emotion until they have what they want or they wipe out. Lets hope they wipe out quickly.

By the time they get around to releasing the details (probably in late January), the momentum will have passed. And anyway, the Obama/Biden "plan" will be just the opening gambit in negotiations that will probably go nowhere.

Write your Senators, write your Representatives! I spent about 30 minutes doing just that last night. Let me assure you, it is time well spent. Probably nothing else that you can do right now is more important. Encourage your family and your fellow gun owners to do the same.

what he will do is phony up more public support, what was it he said something like 54% of the people want gun control? knowing he only has his 47% he will give more food stamps, make it easier to get on SS disability, give more cell phones to get more sheep and the senate will think he has the public support. After all both houses are the biggest bunch of sheep in this country.
All the congress and senate will conspire with each other and see who wants to fall on the sword, if any one of them seems weak for re-election then he/she will sacrifice for the cause, there is no two party system, it is my turn your turn.

The NRA said over and over again, "Obama is biding his time", and people scoffed and laughed, saying "He's a pro gun president, only signed pro gun laws, and even the Brady Bunch is mad at him!" It must be a bitter vindication to Mr LaPierre to be proven right in such a way.

I did not vote for Obama, but do you really think Romney would no support a AWB if he was president. His track record sure indicates he would. After the Sandy Hook shooting he would be pushing it just like BO

You are absolutely correct, Longbeard48. And, hopefully, some of you guys who are so adamantly opposed to supporting the NRA will start to get a clue and realize that the NRA is the only reason you can presently own guns. This move to ban semi- autos, which includes pistols, has less to do with public safety and a lot more to do with the goal of all tyrants. They know that in order to finally subjugate us and consolidate their socialist takeover of this country, they are going to have to disarm us first. We must not allow that to happen. Once we allow ourselves to be disarmed, this country as a freedom loving democracy will be lost forever!

I fear that after these gun grabbing tyrants get the semi-autos, some nutcase will shoot up a theater or a school. Then those who are trying to destroy our means of resisting this evil takeover will insist that we cough up all of the revolvers and bolt guns. Call and write your elected representatives. Politely let them know that you vote and will be watching them. If you don't belong to the NRA and/or Gun Owners of America, do it today. Send them money. It's going to take money to win this fight.

Never one to let facts cloud the issue, Obama seems to have conveniently forgotten (that's "PC" for "ignored" ) that there is currently a duplicate of the 1994 AWB (the reinstatement of which he is pushing) on the Connecticut law books and that it literally did nothing to stop the tragedy that befell those innocents that day. Self-deception seems to be his, and the Left's, "thing".

The AWB didn't work when it was a Federal statute, it'd didn't work in CT, and it dang sure ain't gonna work again.

While it is an after the fact dead horse, I'll say it one more time anyway.

The difference between Romney and Obama is their base and the direction the pressure is being applied. Romney signed the ban in MA while trying to survive as a republican governor in a Democrat state. Ever since then, Romney has been trying to convince a republican base that he is a conservative. Obama is the opposite. He has always been completely anti-gun. He has only pretended to be pro-gun when he has been forced to. He is feeling the heat from having ignored gun laws during the first term. Other members of his party, like Feinstein, are now taking the lead away from him and making him look bad. Romney would be staying in line with his party in saying that new gun laws won't change anything. Obama isn't.

The real damage between the two is the upcoming federal court picks. There were a lot of vacancies that Obama was stalling to fill until AFTER the election. These are the judges who will be deciding which cases the Supreme Court will hear. Are you glad NOW that it will be Obama filling those seats instead of Romney?

Just out of curiosity- What do you think Romney would have done, when presented with this same scenario ?

He's gonna burn so much policapital on this one, pretty much the rest of his agenda just ended up in the crapper.
