No experience with the Glock mag carbine, but I bought a Rock River LAR-9 a few years ago and while it was initially stiff, it has been generally problem free. Liberal application of lube and get to shooting.
I use the modified Uzi mags, and the RR has a dedicated lower so no magazine block to fiddle with.
Loads are cast 9mm over Bullseye and mixed brass...I just use my pistol load and it shoots great. I zero at 50 yards, and my 5 year old has no problem whacking clays with the EOtech on top. Carbine is blowback operated, so no gas port to worry about filling up with lead. There is a faux gas block on the rifle, and I contemplated removing it, but I liked the stepped appearance from rail, to gas block, to barrel. Furniture is Magpul UDE, sold by Larue.
IMHO, it's a urban SD rifle...No need for a longer zero or any BDC to shoot the longer distances. I've plinked at 200y with it, and it gets close enough, but any further than that and I'll grab a real rifle. I chose the EOtech because it meets those requirements perfectly. EOtech is mounted on a
Larue QD mount.
Maintenance is normal for the AR.....solvent, brush, rag and lube. Nothing special, although I do have to scrape the brake clean occasionally.
Honestly, it's the one AR type that I introduce new shooters with. Less muzzle blast than the 223 and it's light weight are easy to deal with.
I will mention this....magazines (32 round ones) are ridiculously difficult to load. I was lining up cartridges on my tailgate and pushing the magazine down to stuff them in. Then I found my brain and bought a 9mm SMG LULA tool. No problems since.
Be prepared for some serious ammo usage. I go through easily a couple hundred rounds every time I touch it.
At 32 rounds a mag, it adds up quick.
