Canik 55 TP9 is a Turkish made, stiker fired, seemingly Walther P99 clone. The Turks are making some very fine smallarms these days, as evidenced by the MKEK Girsan Yavuz 16 Beretta 92 and Colt 1911 platform clones.

The Canik 55 TP9 seems to be another. I also, have not fired this firearm. So really and truly, I only know what I have read about this particular pistol. I do however, own the afore mentioned Girsan models.

I have wanted for a long time to buy a decent, military grade, striker fired (hi-capacity) 9mm pistol. In today's marketplace, with a possible impending AWB (hi-cap) looming, the prices are getting more and more out of reach.

This pistol, is currently avaliable with 2 17 round magazines, hard shell case, Kydex holster and cleaning kit, for $299.00.

Seems like a pretty good purchase to me.

Does anyone have any experience with this pistol? Reliable? Action? Good shooter?

The price seems great but why not chooses something with more plentiful aftermarket parts and support such as magazines, sights and holsters. It just seems like the money saved on the front end may be lost on the back end when you account for this.
 
Well...Like I mentioned , it does come with Kydex paddle style holster and the 17 round mags are Mec-Gar. These are available for about $30.00 a piece. A little pricey for the mags (though about normal for quality hi-cap magazines right now)

Received a very positive review in Oct. 2012 edition of Guns and Ammo, and another good review in The Truth About Guns.

So nobody owns this one huh? No shooting impressions? Positive/Negative?

Price is $321.88 with shipping. Turk made P99 clone. 2 Mec-Gar 17 rounders, holster, case, couple of decent reviews. What the hell. I think I'll give it a try.
 
I'd say give it a go. Before the springfield XD was the XD, it was a Croat import that had a small, but dedicated following. Now it is extremely popular. You might just be catching the trend before a big manufacturer pics it up and changes the finish, and ups the price.

Congrats! I'm pretty sure you will be happy with the "Stingray". I thought about buying one of those myself. However, I already own a Tanfoglio "Force/Police Carry", so thought I'd try something a little different.

I do not own a stiker fired combat pistol. With the reviews I read, 2, 17 round Mec-Gars and the other goodies offered, I opted for the TP 9. I received email confirmation today. Should be able to pick it up on Monday.

Wow!! J & G shipped really fast!!

Perhaps that is correct, however, their shotguns are 100% garbage and at the risk of a broad, sweeping generalization I think I'd pass.

That was the epitome of a broad, sweeping generalization--which is not something to be proud of.

I have only read positive things about the Canik--I look forward to hearing more details about your experiences.
 
Yes, Turkish shotguns are trash. That's why companies like CZ, S&W, and Mossberg sell shotguns with their names on them that are made in Turkey.

Also, guns branded with Turkish names are also trash, like this Huglu.

okiegunner, regarding the tp9 i have read somewhere about someone owning one and not so great reviews mainly towards the trigger part of it, i will see if i can find it. had a stingray c, great gun for the money. sold it to purchase a rifle, if i had to do it over again i would pick up the grand power k100 compact, its that much better than the sting ray-c.

How so? Higher bore axis, more felt recoil, higher price.

I've read, reread, and watched pert near every vid I can. Only good things about Canik, TP9 included.

better feel than the sting ray-c
3 interchangeable back straps
recoil is better on the gp than the sting ray, even though the gp is polymer
trigger is 100 times better than the sting ray in every way, have you tried the double action only on the sting ray....eeek? how about the re-set on the sting ray meh...does not even come close to the gp
more accurate outa the box, the gp wins hands down, and thats my own experience between the two, thats why i choose the gp. this is my opinion dont feel bad when you get the sting ray, go out and shoot it and be happy. i have no regret selling my sting ray and way more happy with my gp, and thats my opinion
 
Why would I feel bad about an all STEEL pistol that mimics a CZ P01, with some parts interchangeability, a 5lb SAtrigger and the DA on a stock CZ isn't that great either(I don't really use DA), reset doesn't bother me for a truck gun that costs $80 less than the K100.

I honestly see nothing objective that would have caused me to choose the GP over the Stingray, when I had the oppurtunity to buy both. Maybe if you compared it to the TP9, even though apples:eek:ranges, you'd have made valid points. I don't see my personal justification for NOT buying a Stingray.

Meanmr., I don't know how or why J & G shipped so fast. I do have the pistol. I'll try and post some photos, but I am lousy at getting them uploaded to this site. (I'm just old I guess)

As to the TP 9...Fit and finish is very nice. Absolutely zero slide to frame slop. The slide is supposedly chrome, but looks much more like a bright stainless. No tool marks. The takedown for fieldstripping is a snap. Really, really simple. Take out the mag. Depress the takedown button with your left hand. Move slide forward with your right thumb. Grab slide with left hand and take off of frame.

Once you have field stripped the pistol, you will see that the barrel is extremely robust. (the barrel is cold hammer forged)

The trigger is actually kind of neat. For your first shot (in DA) it is like a 2 stage trigger found on some rifles. Depress the trigger slowly about 2/3 of the way and you will feel a soft click, you are now in a SA type mode (you can leave the trigger set at this position) and about 3 1/2-4 lbs. of pressure will now fire the pistol. Each consecutive shot will now be fired with the same amount of pull pressure.

You can also opt to not "set" the trigger and fire the first round in completely DA mode. This requires about 10-11 lbs. About like most DA revolvers.

The 2 magazines are of the typical quality we have come to expect from Mec-Gar. They also are marked "Mec-Gar, Made in Italy"

The pistol "snaps" smoothly into the Kydex holster provided. You have to depress a spring loaded button on the side of the holster in order to draw the firearm.

Everything on this pistol fits very nice and tight, i.e., slide to frame, mags to pistol, holster to firearm, etc.

Is every pull after the initial first in "single action"?
 
Trigger in SA feels fairly smooth and light (maybe 4 lbs.)

The slide racks and chambers smoothly.

BTW guys...Just because I bought this pistol does not mean I am trying to sell you all a line of goods, or some other BS. It is what it is. If this pistol was made somewhere other than Turkey (even Brazil, or dare I say Croatia) it would/should sell for a couple of hundred, or more, dollars.

The Walther P99 (and this is just my opinion. To me, the TP 9 is more of a cross between a Walther P 99 and a Taurus 24/7 Gen 2. Say 75-80% Walther and 20-25% Gen 2, 24/7. BTW, the Gen 2s are pretty nice) may very well be a nicer pistol. It certainly has an older and (in most circles) better respected name. For the difference in price, especially after the extra goodies offered by Canik...given the choice, I'd buy the TP 9 again.
 
Cool review. I've been tempted to buy one of these myself and would have already if I weren't trying to save up cash right now (need a house down-payment). Hopefully they'll still be around in another few months.
 
You guys are all very welcome. It feels good to be able to contribute (hopefully some useful info). The TP 9 appears to be a good and solid "combat" type pistol, that is priced very reasonably for all the value the buyer receives.

I for one am anxiously awaiting Meanmrmustard's opinion and write-up on the "Stingray".

Soon, my friend, soon. It's in the air, prolly looking at ETA Tuesday-Wednesday.

I'm still wondering if I need P01 grips or 75 Compacts? Confused.
 
I just noticed, J & G has raised the price on the Canik 55 TP 9, to $349.99.

Also, for those interested...A couple of months ago J & G had the VZ2008 for $399.00. They are now selling this rifle for $900.00!!!
