Why couldnt Ria make a better take down design though ?

You have to use a paperclip to take down the Gun
You can just do it under spring tension, or make a tool and keep it in your cleaning kit. I have a bunch of little copper tools that I made from heavy jewelry wire out of the wife's hobby stuff, I sized them just right for my 3.4" and 4" guns. They take about 5 seconds each to make, with no tool other than the guide-rod out of the RIA recoil assembly as both a measuring device and something to bend the wire with.

The design is simple and reliable, and keeps manufacturing costs down. (savings passed down to you and I, the consumers)

hey thatgiantmidget sorry took so long to get back to you but the item model number is 43000 i got them from amazon for $18.69 delivered

The take down on a RI compact is typical of the way the two piece recoil systems work on compact 1911's. Once you learn how to do it and practice doing it a couple of times it gets easier.

I have two RI's (well I had two, I gave one to my son for his 21st b-day) and have not had any issues with either. Note that on a 1911 you have to have a firm grip to allow the recoil to cycle the gun properly. If you are having trouble with the grips it could be contributing to cycling issues you were having.

Grips: GI w/walnut diamond grips on top, compact with rubber diamonds on the bottom.
