Maine residents ACT NOW.

Thanks to TheAutobahn for sharing the bill LD 345 which will make concealed carry permit holder information confidential. We are urging ALL Maine residents to contact your state representatives (go to congress.org and it will send your message to all of them at once) and ask them to support LD 345.

My letter to my representatives;

I am urging you to please pass LD 345 "An Act To Ensure the Confidentiality of Concealed Weapons Permit Holder Information".

There have been recent attacks on the privacy of Maine residents that hold concealed carry permits. In New York an interactive map was created showing the exact homes of everyone who had a firearms permit. This is very dangers as it gives criminals a place to strike and illegally obtain firearms when someone is at work or away from home.

This invasion to our privacy also endangers our lives and ENDANGERS THE LIVES OF OUR CHILDREN. There are hundreds of us that organized after this latest invasion by the Bangor Daily News, we will not let our families come under harm for someone's political agenda. Please pass LD 345 without hesitation. Thank you.

Edit: I should have mentioned that Maine is only one of 14 states left that have not made those records confidential.

Yes it does, after the BDN scare we just had (which we won luckily, for now) we need this passed ASAP. Imagine a group of gang bangers coming up from Commiechusetts and targeting homes they know have guns in them? Not to mention even though crime is relatively low in Maine we've had more break-ins in the past few years since the economy got worse. You're pretty ballsy or pretty desperate to break in to homes in my home town, the odds are good that homeowners have a big dog or guns.

Go to congress.org and on the right side of the page there is a contact your state representatives. Enter your info and state and the e-mail you type will be sent to all your reps. Write something short and sweet urging them to support LD 345.

You can also call/write your individual reps one at a time, we need our voices heard that we as Maine residents want this to happen.

LD 345 is a state legislature bill, not congressional bill. There are some 30+ gun bills before this session of the legislature and this was one of them. It caused the Bangor Daily news to try and submit a FOI request to get all the CWP names for the whole state. It caused a real poking a hornets nest with a stick deal and they capitulated only to have an anonymous party to pick it up.
The governor has submitted a special bill that will be voted on Tuesday to prevent these names from being released until LD 345 is debated and passed.

LD 345 is a state legislature bill, not congressional bill.

I don't think anybody said it was a federal bill. If you're referring to Ryanxia's suggestion to use congress.org to contact your state reps, you'll notice that the website is .org, not .gov - the congress.org website isn't a government site - and it gives you the option to contact either your Federal OR State Reps.

I hope to hear from some more Mainers I know are on this forum saying they've contacted their reps over this. Also if you're a non-resident CCW holder your input should have as much importance as Maine residents because it's still your info.
