I just laid out 1300 bucks for a new Smith, before it even got dusty a malfunction required it go back for warranty repairs.
Well, OK, the job was done the day after it was received.
And they tell me it could be another 2 to 3 weeks!!!! before it gets out of their shipping department.
Too much! I've been walking around stunned since I heard that :banghead:

XVR 460 and the hand broke, but that has nothing to do with it.
Even though it's one of their top of the line guns, once it gets to shipping it goes to the back of the line of all the T-shirts and whatever else is waiting to ship!

Seriously? I think you are possibly over reacting. They are as backed up as everyone else.

Eh? Are you suggesting that they should ship YOUR specific item in front of everyone else's order? Isn't there a good chance that S&W is shipping... Guns?

So it isn't their fault they can't ship in a timely manner? I have got to hear the logic behind that. They must still not be aware that there is a run on shooting items.

Can you imagine the pile of stuff they must be shipping right now if it will take 2-3 WEEKS just to work through the pile to your gun?

REJOICE! They're super busy supplying gunny goodness to the USA!

You'll be ok, hard as it is, without your magnum boomer for a couple more weeks. If you 'walk around stunned' because of a brief shipping delay, imagine how CRUSHED you'll be if something really bad ever happens in your life! This is more of an "Oh, darn," thing than a, "life is merely a rose garden of thorns," thing.

Heck, if you're over 30 you might recall when anything you wanted shipped came with the notice, "Please allow 6 weeks." Things are better now, but stuff happens. Stuff like enormous runs on guns ammo and everything under the sun that's even remotely related. Everybody's backed up until the 5th Tuesday of Octember.

At any rate, I think it's your fault! If you'd bought it two weeks sooner you'd have it back by now! :neener:

(See, don't you feel better after a good belly laugh, ... Dude?) :D

Hey, every company screws up sometimes.

I bought a nice new S&W 686 SSR on 12/16/11. I took it out to test fire it (with standard power .38 Spl loads) and get it sighted in. There were no problems. On 12/21, I’d just finished an action job when I noticed something odd. Doing my final check on the timing, I noticed that, as the cylinder was rotating, the flutes were changing position in relation to the timing notches. Big red flag. I took a closer look.

The cylinder had six chambers and six timing notches, but seven flutes. Since the flutes don't always line up with the chambers, wall thickness varies from the usual 0.10" to 0.04". Good thing I did my test firing with mild .38 Special loads and not with full-bore factory .357 ammo!

The point is, S&W made it right and threw in an unfluted cylinder for my trouble. It took a couple of weeks, but those guys are kind of busy and your gun isn't the only one they have to deal with!

All three of my Smiths have rotated barrels, however you want to call it. Even my 1973 pinned barrel Model 19 isn't perfectly straight. Can't find a Python and don't like Ruger's trigger pull - but I highly doubt Colt and Ruger didn't and still don't have their share of issues as well.

Companies just want to get product out the door. Management is just ignorant or indifferent and craftsmen no longer take much pride in their work. It's the world we live in.

Had a recent warranty repair for a S&W k-frame. The service rep mentioned it could be 2-4 weeks depending on how backlogged they were. This was before the election when backlog was still somewhat normal.

The sear spring broke. It was firing OK one moment, next thing you know, double action no longer worked.

S&W not only replaced the itty-bitty sear spring but they replaced the sear too. My guess was an improperly set/manufactured sear caused the spring to eventually fail, but I'm no expert. They also replaced the strain screw that was cosmetically buggered (I found out about it beforehand only after changing grips). :)

They sent it back under 2 weeks. Believe it or not they really don't want to keep your stuff. :neener:

Ha! You can say THAT again! And we had to send a Postage Pre-Paid, Pre-addressed envelope for the pleasure, too! And we marked it on our calendars ( back before they came on our telephones ) and counted down the days... And hurriedly waited by the door the week of expected arrival... And pestered the mailman because there WASN'T any UPS or FEDEX... And... And... And... And clocks had HANDS...

What were we talking about? Damn impatient whippersnappers...

Fairly certain that S&W made more than one gun this year... Have a drink.

This is one of the most expensive handguns S&W builds. It was received and left the gun smiths bench 24 hours later.
Why are new warranty repair guns backlogged in a shipping department for a month behind baseball caps and T-shirts and all the other stuff Smith peddles from their catalog.
Their priorities are out of wack.
I spent a long time on the phone with a rep at Smith, maybe some chains will get jerked, but I ain't counting on it.
He told me EVERYTHING that goes into shipping goes out in the order received.

I've been buying new guns since the late '50s, never ever had a deal like this.

Why should anyone's order take precedence over anyone else's? That's just bad business. If my new ball cap got delayed so they could rush out your repair job, I'd be pretty annoyed!

Sounds like a relationship best left to die given the expectations and reactions of the OP.

I know one builder who, the second time you call him he immediately reconciles a bill and returns the item in question regardless of status/condition with a request to find products, work and consolation elsewhere. Extreme but I get it.

I still don't think this matters one whit. In fact, if I saved and saved, just to be able to buy and entry level firearm that had to get warranty repaired and learned that another one ( yours ) left before mine just because it cost the owner more, I'd be pissed as heck.

I just sent an LCR back to Ruger yesterday.

My take on all this is "quality". New production SUCKS!!!!!!!!!! Not just S&W, but across the board. So many accept the motto "it's going to happen". I call BULL CRAP!

All my old revolvers function perfectly. I'm 3 for 3 on sending my brand-new ones back for repair.
