I had a voicemail from my LGS (pawnshop) this morning saying I may really want to stop by. Realizing this is like a kid walking into a candy store, I visited the shop this afternoon.

A beautiful Smith & Wesson model 10-10 was handed to me. The shop was assured the gun has never been fired, I concur. It doesn't have a scratch on it. I looked it over real well and determined the lockup, timing, fit, finish and bores were all perfect. I believe the 10-10 is a current production Classic but this one has no lock (this pawnshop would not bother to call me about anything with a lock).

I can't explain just what it is about this gun that made me want it real bad, balance maybe, the sweet-looking heavy barrel, the Swiss watch-like fit of the parts, it all just felt so right. So, $499 lighter I walked out with it. Here's hoping it shoots as good as it looks :)

Sweet Gun - I had a couple of Model 10s over the years and they are great guns. The round butt is not that common. You will enjoy it.

Couple of months back I came across this Model 36-1, 3 inch heavy barrel round butt. Its a dead ringer for your model 10 only a smaller 5 shot version. These have been showing up pretty regular on Gun Broker (some round butt some square). Make a nice pair.

The 10-10 is not current manufacture. No lock, and (I believe) no MIM parts. Should date to around 1988.

I have a 10-10 that was one of the Aussie police trade-ins sold by Bud's. Great gun. Accurate as all get-out.

There's a reason S&W sold about 5 million of these. They do the job. I have a 64 in my nightstand (same as 10 in stainless) and several other M&Ps floating around the ranch.

Had this 10-5 spiffed up a few years ago.

Very nice!

Back in '82 my father allowed me to buy my first gun at a show from a private seller. Since then I've judged all revolvers based on that sweet model 10. I actually bought it to take a college course called "History, Use and Maintenance of Handguns" at the University of Akron.

Boy have times changed.

bikemutt, I gotta get over to your side of the sound more often -- you keep finding these gems, and I'm gettin' jealous. I did score a nickeled 10-7 snubby and an unfired Model 15 a couple months ago, but it's been dry over here since. Can you let me know if you find a clean 66-4 snubby that you don't need?

I've bought and sold many model 10's over the years. Hell, I've bought and sold all kinds of guns over the years. But I miss very few. One of those few is a snub-nose round butt Model 10. Had tacky faux-ivory grips on it and everything. Decided I needed something else and off it went...

Damn, now I need to go find another one...

Two of my favorite K frames were the heavy barrel versions of the Model 10 and Model 13. Congrats on another great find.

Very nice!

I am a fan of the model 10 myself and I am going to get a heavy barrel model when I find a good example of one. I want, nay, need a heavy barrel model 10. :D

Also, SaxonPig, I have a 4" much like your 2"

I purchased a 10-3 that was carried in a zippered pouch and has got rusted and pitted from condensation. I stripped it, bead blasted it and gun black finished it. It still has the pit marks but Im not sure how to fill them in without spending alot of money on it. It is a real good shooter and servers as a night stand gun or throw in the truck gun. Once you shoot them its hard to sell them off. I really like it and some day will restore it to like new.
The pictures above are real beautys and I would fine it hard to take them to the range and shoot em. Just to pretty !

Nice OP. Saw your book there, mathematics for Engineers, ha, ha. you don't happen to work for Boeing?

Negative on the Boeing employment, not even an engineer. I used to do a lot of outdoor wireless network design and installation, trigonometry was my best friend.

Now I mostly use trigger-nometry :)

Used to work as an engineer at Boeing Everett aka the big kite factory.
Wondered if you had the pleasure.
