As predicted - local markets flooded with AR15s/etc.

I am seeing more on arms list and local message boards. Price still higher than 6 months ago. Of course if it is too high then prices will start to adjust down

Everything is still MSRP if your LUCKY! Ammo is still outrageous IF you can find it!

lots of stuff is popping up, seems like store prices or a few bucks more. but if the store is out of stock $5 more doesn't look to bad.

I'm glad they are asking what they want to get. Personally I would not part with $500 to get one. I have zero interest in small-bore centerfire self-loading rifles.

A pretty big overstatement to say that markets are "flooded" as "predicted".

I am seeing ARs available for sale, and at prices that are down significantly from their peak during the panic, but still overall about double what they were 6 months ago.

On gunbroker, which is a good indicator of just how much people would be willing to pay, it is almost back to normal.

In last December / early January, many standard AR platforms were pushing 3000, and SELLING. These same platforms are now inbetween 1000 - 1500. They are still overpriced by a few hundred.

I was thinking about this yesterday. Flooded is not a word I would choose. Maybe "tiny easing". Market is very, very slightly lightening up. Seattle? Full of ads? huh? There are maybe one or two more ads. Love this part of the script:

This was for a SigM400 on SGN. I am always interested in small-bore centerfire self-loading rifles. I am particularly interested in the Mark Kelly Commemorative Edition SIG M400 model.

I heard a local Southern Police Equipment radio ad the other day advertising Windham ARs for sale. That was a surprise.

This is a thread that illustrates how nice it would be if everybody specified their state. Who gives a &^% what they say about prices when we don't know where they are???

In GA and AL I started seeing a trickle of ARs back into local stores about three weeks ago. By trickle I mean that they got them in, put a pretty high asking price on them, and they sat on the shelf for a day or two compared to January when they were gone before they came out of the box.
I haven't looked in a week or so since I have absolutely no need of another AR unless I can get a steeal tnd that's not gonna happen for a while as the people who will likely be selling them in the next year probably paid way too much and will try to hold out rather than taking the huge hit.

I think the Ammo issue has slowed the AR sales.
My buddy has 6 hanging on his shop wall and he has not had a bite on either one.
His pistol cases are empty though.
22's are no where to be found.
I bought mine for 3 Cents and have 15 K rounds.
Saw a guy at the local gun show with 5 boxes of 550 count each and he was asking $85 each.
I'm glad that I sold all of mine and got out.
For once I did the right thing at the right time.
I had 5 K rounds of PMC and they were snapped up in a hurry.
I'm sticking with my lever 38-357's because I can shoot them inside the range.
Plus I can buy reloads for 12&1/2 cents each.

I think many of us predicted that the used market would start to see a lot of used AR's once the panic subsided. I wouldn't say that armslist is "flooded" by any means, but there are definitely a lot more available. All those people that had no interest in one (and maybe couldn't afford it to begin with) but went out and bought one "Just in case they get banned" are now trying to sell them and recoup their costs. Unfortunately, for a lot of people this means trying to sell the rifles for way more than any sane person would pay used. I saw one guy trying to sell a complete lower for $600. I emailed saying that PSA has stripped lowers and lower build kits in stock, and I could build my own for under $300. No response.

So, it will be a little while yet before prices return to "normal."

ETA this is in Minnesota. Also I have seen AR's on the shelves at Cabela's again.

Prices are sticky, as the economists say. When bubbles end, prices rarely drop 50-80% in the space of a couple of weeks. They quit rising, then inventories start to build and prices gradually come down. Everyone who thought there was a "new normal" has to overcome the cognitive dissonance before realizing that their paper gains are all gone.

You know that moment when the roller coaster has just started to go downhill, but isn't moving fast yet?

The high end stuff like Colt ARs and Arsenal Aks are still selling for MSRP + 30% all day long. All the box store ammo shelves are completely empty and it's expensive without much choice at local stores.

I really wish we could get the ammo supply back up to normal. I think it will take longer than the 6 months originally expected.

Is the market "flooded" with mags and ammo too? The gun is pretty useless without them.

I'm seeing more available...which I believe is a market response to people who may have bought up some AR's as an investment and are looking to sell while the market still supports higher prices, in light of the current turn in political events.

I intend to buy an AR at some point, but not now. Prices are way too high for me. Personally, they don't appeal to me all that much...just not my bag. My wife, however, has a problem with authority...and being told that she "cannot have an 'assault weapon'" by the government tweeks her rebelious nature.

The end result is that I'll buy her just such a rifle to satisfy her rebelious nature.

Just not right now.

Basic economics, we are at the peak of the "used" supply and they are still at the low supply prices. Wait a bit until sellers cant move them, then the asking price will drop.

People are going to be asking what they paid for quite a while. It will probably drive prices down faster as a result. When the big box retailers get plenty of stock in, and continue to offer them at the same prices as before, a lot of people are going to have to suck it up and cut their losses.

How much for mags and ammo to go with that shinny toy? Useless without them.

i went through Casa Grande a few days ago, small town Arizona, found three shops with AR style rifles, (one was only 22lr copies), and the average price seemed to be about 1,400. The two DPSM .308s were going for $2400 each..

One place had ammo, $1 a round. I negotiated a price break on my rent with .223 reloads.

remember all the posts in 2009 for used AR's that had some variation of "trying to get my money back" or "exactly what it cost me" and "like new" or "never fired"for guns that were lots higher than new guns. I predict the same thing will happen again. Used prices will stay high. Eventually things will settle back down until some evil loon shoots up another school and it all starts again. Maybe we should start putting the police departments in the schools. Call it governmental property consolidation.

Panic buying is just stupid but even more stupid are those who spend twice or three times what something is worth simply out of panic.

Personally if my local gun shop was selling guns or ammo for much higher than the MSRP simply to feed off panic buyers I would never do business with that shop again and I would let them know that.
