Titegroup...

What OAL did you use and what pistol(s) did you shoot the load with?

I'd up the charge a tad to 4.1gr.

That said, I don't care for TG...it burns too hot, the recoil is snappy, it stains the case and it's temperature sensitive. I've also found TG when combined with lead bullets creates excessive smoke. On the plus side, it's cheap.

+++++^^1. Check OAL and consider increase powder , always check manual but I had same with "pet loads" that would cycle gun but would not burn clean. When the pressure is too low case will not seal against chamber and will burn incompletely.

I just shot some of my loads with tightgroup. I'm using 115 grain berrys and winchester primers. didn't seem dirty to me. I'm running 3.8 grains.

124gr 9x19 with Tite Group

Magic number is 4.2

I'm running 4.6gr, this is according to the Hodgdon chart the start load is 4.2 and max is 4.8.


Am I missing something here?? I have shot these rounds and they are incredibly accurate

I'm running 3.9gr in mine under a 115gr FMJ, and its really accurate in mine.

May be loading for USPSA, or IDPA. I load 3.7gr of WST/180gr XTreme for my .40 s&w G35. The data on Hodgdon's web site say 3.9gr is the minimum for WST under 180gr FMJ. I still make PF, but had to change my recoil spring to a 13lb spring for this load to function properly. I know a lot of guys that load 3.6-3.7gr of Titegroup for bunny fart loads in 9mm using 11lb recoil springs.

Get some Win 231.

I agree, you will be much happier with W231/HP-38. It's clean with all but the lowest pressure loads.

Interesting. I use both TG and W231. I use 4.0 grains of TG behind the Berry's 12 gain bullet. I worked up loads with 231 and thought the 231 was much more dirty than the TG. I am OK with either of these powders and find the recoil of TG to be much less, don't ask me why.

Ttiegroup is one of the most popular powders for USPA 9mm and .40 - 124g 4.1 or 4.2 1.130 in my G34 and G17. Powders run cleanest in the upper ranges.

If you see someone complaining check to see if they are shooting bunnyfart lead loads lol

I think you are. Hodgdon's list 125gr FMJ at 4.2 min to 4.5max.

If you load 4.8grs in your loads let me know where you are shooting so I can be a gosh darn long ways away from you.

I think you are. Hodgdon's lists 125gr fmj at 4.2 min to 4.5 max.
If you load 124gr at 4.8 gr of Titegroup let me know where your shooting so I can be a gosh darn long ways away.

Universal.

I load 124-gr plated HP with 4.7 of Titegroup at 1.125" OAL and it is accurate, no pressure problems, burns clean, very accurate in my Sub-2000 Keltec. I did work my way up to 5.0 grains of TG but those were getting imho a bit hot.

9mm does allow +P, and without any published data for 9mm, one works up to these loads carefully especially with a powder like Titegroup.

I load the 124 grain lead RNs with 4.4 gr of Titegroup atr 1.12" oal. This is my bog standard 9mm load.

OPs load is too light. At 4.0 grains I was getting rendom fail to feed errors with the slide or bolt closing on an empty chamber with rounds in the magazine. I upped my charge to 4.2 and then 4.4 and that's now my standard 9mm load.

I have been using TG alot

115gr 4.3gr and nice accuracy and not much Smoke and realistic POP

have also done 4.5gr... seemed hotter so dropped back to 4.3gr

Thinking maybe 3.9 is too light... try 4.2 or 4.3 and see how it does

Titegroup for Major loads?!!! Wow.

I quit using Titegroup a long time ago, but not because it wasn't working or fear of a double charge.

It just makes the gun too hot! Shoot a string on an action pistol stage and grab the slide to show clear. OUCH!

Universal (also a Hodgdon powder) is so much nicer in a lot of ways.
1. It's bulky enough to be impossible to double charge. In 9mm, it will spill out everywhere if you try.
2. At mid-range to upper charge weights, it burns exceptionally clean. My cases come out of the gun just as clean as they went in. They get dirtier from the ground than firing.
3. It's easy to get to higher velocities without making excessive pressure. You can duplicate the velocity of your defense ammo without stressing your brass.
4. It doesn't heat treat the slide when you shoot it
5. It meters really consistently for me (Hornady powder measure)
6. The recoil impulse is nicer.

I don't see much good in using titegroup. From what I remember, if you manage to spill a little on your skin, it burns.

4.0 Titegroup under a 124 gr Berry's is very clean and accurate in my PM9, Shield, & Sig 226.

I use 4.0-4.1 TG with RMR 124gr RN Plated. Pet load out of my G17, G19, Beretta 92. Love it.

Yep major, 4.6 180fmj in a .40 1.135 in my G35. I've noted that high road shooters are shooting bunnyfarts or Mack daddy full house loads (nothing wrong at all). Swing over to Brian Enos where reloading is more of a competition perspective.

I load TG in 9L, 357SIG and 40SW. Try stepping up your powder charge. The loads should get cleaner and more accurate. I wouldn't go much past 4.2gn with a non-jacketed bullet. You might also try stretching your OAL for the hotter loads to see how it affects accuracy. I'm never under 1.125 in the 9L.
