Where did all the percussion caps go?

Have you tried Wal-Mart? I found a whole rack full of Winchester #11's (and 209's) at my local store. In retrospect I should have picked up more than 200 of each though!

Ask the manager about it, i know at my walmart they take them off the shelf during forth of july about 2 weeks before and after the forth all black powder items seems to drop from the racks, then just after the forth the stuff starts to pop back up.

I dont know if they do this for a reason or its just holiday things. Your walmart could be slow to bring them back around.

I can get remington 10s and 11s and i can get CCI 10 and the winchester 11s from walmart. It shouldnt cost more then $1. to send if you need

Did you ask for the home office number? such a little item they could keep them behind the counter till you need them and come ask.

What about this, can you have them sent from another store to your store?

You can order them online. Bad thing is ya got to pay a hazmat charge of around $27 (more or less). So if ya order em but a bunch.

That's not exactly true - each Wal-Mart store manager determines the inventory for his store because the store's performance is the basis for his paycheck. If he thinks it's worth his time and effort (and will contribute to his bottom line) he can order it. The only restriction is he has to get it from the Wal-Mart warehouse (except for some local produce), so it may be that the warehouse is out.

You may not have talked to the STORE manager - it may have been the sporting goods manager, who has no authority over inventory; ask to speak to the store manager.

I don't know this to be true but I believe that all of the ammunition manufacturers are directing their efforts toward the most popular rounds and neglecting guys like us. They are hesitant to add new employees because they figure that the current run on smokeless ammo is nothing to lean on for the long term.
When and if shooters stop lining up to clear the shelves the manufacturers might return to producing for the needs of the muzzleloader

Well when i starting shooting with scopes the BP stuff was always around the scopes and attachment stuff. I wasnt into BP then so i didnt look at it much. Then all the sudden everything was gone they removed everything involving BP then i got into BP and i asked where it all went. They told me it was "seasonal" then it slowly all came back.

I couldnt find much i could use shooting pistols i had everything else. I asked twice where are the percussion caps? Both guys behind the counter didnt even know what percussion caps were. Then all the sudden there were #11 winchester percussion caps on the rack like 5 tins of em.

I told them the percussion caps is what fires the black powder charge how are the shooters who shoot this stuff going to fire this stuff without any percussion caps within a week they were on the shelf. Some one was listening

I was at my local Sportsmans Warehouse a few days ago with the idea of purchasing a couple boxes of 0.451 roundballs. They were sold out of both 0.451 and 0.454s. They were also sold out of all revolver caps. I wondering if folks are stocking up on these items because of political issues.
Sorry for venting, but it seems like I'm forced to order on-line most of the time.

I guess I should give up my source of cheap percussion caps that are available.3rd generation shooting supply has remington #11 percussion caps in stock.There is a limit of 2,000.per purchase but the great news is he sells them for 2.99 per tin and the haz mat fee is $27.50.So if you buy 2,000 with the haz mat fee they are less than$4.50 per 100 plus shipping.I hope I have enough before you guys run him out.

maybe this will be the next thing everyone will hoard and then i can buy some .22 ammo

Went there. What is the difference between the Rem #11 and the Rem #11 Rifle they have listed. Want them for revolver. I have few hundred Rem #11 but the tin is just labeled as #11, no use designation.

the tins just say #11 the box says #11 for percussion guns,new hotter caps.nowhere does it say rifle.I tried one on my Ruger old army and on a rem1858 clone.They seem to fit fine,I turned the cylinder upside down and pounded it on my hand the caps didn't fall off.

Well I ordered the max, 2000. Confirming email stated that due to high volume on orders
shipping would be delayed by a few days, haz mat by weeks..............guess I will just have to wait and see

And my understanding in general is that this retailer is very slow and also doesn't tend to email people when they ship. So maybe once a week put your order # into their website and it'll do a search by reference at UPS for you so you can get some heads up that it's arriving.

Usually buy caps at Bass Pro. They sell the ones I like.
For the last 8 months they are always out.
I think the ammo panic has hit BP supplies too.

I was at Kittery Trading Post over the weekend. They usually have a good supply of B/P items but not this time. No percussion caps at all.

They only order a certain amount for the hunting season and once they're sold out ,they don't get any more in. I bought enough last year, but I should have got just as many this year and I didn't.

I was moving stuff around the attic, as I was pulling up floor boards to put in insulation. Found a box with 9 - 100 cap tins of CCI No 11's. KUUUUUUUUUULE!

BTW, the price on the box was $13.99

You guys passing along tips about Wal-Mart crack me up. The Wally-Worlds down here sell Gerber knives and ammunition.... and the ammo (popular sizes) is usually gone after 10:30AM on Wednesdays - they put it out at 10. Now, if somebody needs factory loads for a Moisin-Nagant; there are 7-8 boxes of 7.62x54R under about 1/2" of dust in the locked-up case.

Having no problem acquiring caps where I live. Local sporting good store has a nice supply. But I bought 5 tins yesterday just in case. $5.59 per tin for CCI # 10's.
