Got this PT111 G2 in yesterday and figured I'd do a little post about it. Was on sale for $199 with free shipping and for that price I couldn't pass it up .
I took it to the range this evening and put 100 rounds through it (all were 147gr reloads) - gun ran flawlessly. Accuracy was good. Feel in the hand was pretty good too. It's pretty much the smallest grip length I can go and still get an uncramped full grip on the gun. The texture on the grip feels very aggressive. I doubt you'd need any grip tape or other such additions on this grip. The LCI is also nice. Same position and style as my SR9 but it doesn't stick up nearly as far. It's still in the "tasteful" category versus the "obnoxious" LCI on the SR .
Overall it feels very well built and well worth the price. Only negatives for me were:
- It has a thumb safety. Not thrilled about that but it is what it is.
- There was a bit of mold flash here and there on the frame. Most of it I easily picked off with my fingers. No huge deal.
- The double-action pull on it is atrocious. Not really heavy, but very, very gritty. On the other hand you'll never see this trigger mode unless its for a second strike, otherwise it's in SA mode which isn't as bad. There's a good deal of take-up and the break is rather far back, but its tolerable.
- Plastic sights. There aren't any good aftermarket options out there so replacement isn't necessarily an option, but I'll live with them. Glocks cost 3x as much as this gun and still comes with plastic sights. FWIW they are adjustable though.
Overall I may well end up working this into my carry rotation pending some more function testing. It's my smallest 9mm at this point (I normally carry an LCP - this is a nice size between that and my full-sized 9mm's).
