Taurus PT111 G2

Interesting. Years ago I bought a little Millenium Pro. It was a small DAO striker fired pistol in .45 ACP. And 10 rounds in the mag. I liked the thumb safety. I guess the new one is what I call a stage fire gun like a Glock. In other words, pull the trigger and click. Then you pull the slide back to recock it.

Picture time on the old guy.

Kinda. You don't have to pull the slide back to recock it - it'll pull and click again without doing it, but it'll be DA.

It's kind of SA/DA instead of DA/SA. There's not really any way to intentionally access the DA trigger on a shot EXCEPT for second strike as even though it's DA capable, there's no decocker.

FWIW I had my PT111 G2 out at the range again on Sunday and put another 100 rounds through it with no issues at all.

IMHO - it's the best value out there in the handgun market right now.

What makes this gun so inexpensive? I bought an original PT-111 back in 1997, and it cost way more than that.

Just thought I'd post back to this. Y'all twisted my arm & made me do it. I wound up ordering a $199.99 PT-111 G2 last Monday. I picked it up from a local FFL Friday. It ate 110 rounds (50 rounds blazer brass fmj, 50 rounds Monarch JHP & 10 rounds Remington HTP jhp) without a bobble Saturday. Now if I can just find a good holster. Only thing I really dislike is the trigger but Im sure I can adjust to it.

I've had my G2 for 1.5 years now, probably have 1000 rounds through it. Its been flawless, very accurate from 10 yards, no malfunctions. I paid $280 out the door, but I've been very pleased with it.

I've gotten used to the trigger....its not very good.

I think the retailers all thought that they could make another 50 bucks on each PT111 Millennium G2 since Taurus was offering a $50.00 rebate, but I'm starting to see the prices creep down to the $225.00 range - still a cheap gun at around $175.00 but not as cheap as it could be if the retailers offered it for the $199.99 it was going for previously.

Be careful Count Zero sooner or later you are going to spot a deal that is a little too good & then you will have to come up with a reason to "need" another gun.

The Taurus rebate is expiring at the end of the month. I wonder if we'll see the price on the G2 creep downward as it gets closer to Dec 31st. The dealers are currently getting their cut of the rebate but I would think they'd be willing to take less of a cut as the 31st draws near versus getting no cut after the 31st and having the G2s in inventory.

I have a PT740 Slim and the trigger is awesome. It's about 4 lbs and crisp like a custom 1911. It eats everything I've fed it. I like it so much I sold my G27 and only carry the Slim these days.

The G2 must have a different trigger than the Slim with so many complaining about it.

I have read nothing but good things about these guns. When I asked at the LGS
the response was that they won't sell Taurus and won't take one in trade. I was a little surprised to hear that. Especially since there was a PT.22 under the glass.
When I asked about a Kahr CM9 the answer was no, we don't have any. No offer to order one or anything. They have plenty of PM9 though. Could it be they just want to sell the more expensive stuff?

It was redesigned after a massive recall. It looks like they got it right the second time.

I was about ready to buy one, but then the rebate came out and prices shot up $50 overnight. I am convinced that rebates are a scam, so that put that off.

If I saw one for $200, I'd think pretty hard about it.

Kinda sorta. I bought my G2 prior to the rebate offer, but I've sent in a lot of them over the years and have always gotten whatever it is they promised (be it a check, extra bullets, etc).

Companies basically do them because people are lazy. If you offer a gun for $200 then everybody pays $200. If you offer it for $250 with a $50 rebate, then the option is still there for $200, but 30-50% of the buyers will never get around to sending in the rebate. Its their own fault, but companies count on that laziness to keep a bit of extra money.

FWIW, I've put a few hundred more trouble-free rounds through my G2. Still liking it quite a bit. I just wish that they'd release some aftermarket night sights for it.

I am not sure how long the deal will run for but Palmetto State Armory is advertising these for $199.99 again. Just thought I'd throw it out there for anyone who may be interested.

Maybe that rebate really was more for the dealers than the end purchaser.

Maybe it was to entice more dealers to carry Taurus.

One LGS by me doesn't have any Taurus semi-autos at all. A few Taurus revolvers but that's it.

What recall? I called Taurus and they never issued a recall.

If you are soft in the head and/or have very poor gun safety practices you can engage the manual safety while the trigger is partially pulled. The gun will then fire with the safety on if the trigger is pulled and it may fire if dropped.
