    Gun etiquette

Ok, update and this should be resolved then. Spoke with A a couple of times and thus far, it seems we're back on track as friends. She'll be talking with B about safe gun handling and that we'd have to go to the range so we can educate him about guns. Second chance I guess huh? Sam

Keeping the bolt open on an SKS

Aha! Detachable mag. There-in lies your problem then! Get rid of the detachable mag and stick with the original mag and stripper clips. Problem solved!

Keeping the bolt open on an SKS

Umm... I could be wrong but place the butt of the rifle against your hip, using your right hand, pull the bolt back and hold it. Using your left, pull/pop the mag latch on the SKS back and allow the magazine to drop open... at least that's what happens in my SKS. Of course, where I go, the...

    Owning more than one?

Nothing wrong with having two guns that are identical. If you use that particular gun heavily, it makes sense. Some of us are concerned with cost in that we are still working on building up our collection and therefore want to continue to get variety. However, at one time before a mixture of...

He brought a gun to a knife fight,

Tourist, Within contact distances, I'd be happy to tangle with a gunman. My bet is I'll have the gunman disarmed before they can hurt me. Been threatened at close range on more than a couple occasions (bad luck?) and each time I've been able to negate the threat by disarming the person. With...

He brought a gun to a knife fight,

Hmm, computer hacking. If only I were intelligent enough to hack. Ah well, all I can do is chat on forums and check email. Not much more I would really want to do anyway.

He brought a gun to a knife fight,

If it was a Raven .25, I'd have thrown it out the window too. I "confiscated" one from a gang banger kid who threatened me with it. He peed his pants and ran when he ended up on the ground and I had his pop gun. I called the Milwaukee PD and gave it to them with a description kid. The cop...

    Shooting with both eyes open

When I shoot with both eyes open, I see two targets and I aim for the middle one. lol Seriously, when I shoot, there are two guns and one target. I always align the left gun in my sight picture with the target. If the left gun I see is lined up correctly (proper sight pic) then I'm on. I...

He brought a gun to a knife fight,

"I have a few suprises for an intruder all over the house." If they're booby traps, get rid of them and load a gun for HD. Booby traps have been deemed illegal and you can and will be prosecuted in any state. Federal law I think? Or maybe just a law all states have chosen to enact. In any...

Is Walmart going out of the gun business?

All walmarts in the SE WI area stopped carrying and selling firearms some time in 2006 I think, or perhaps it was even as early as late 2005. No more firearms sales although they're still selling accessories and ammo.

    Gun etiquette

Frankly, I didn't care if B knew what kind of guns I had. As it is, A, her father and I have had a little "Look what I got!" thing going for years when it comes to firearms. As such, it was more habit than anything to show off my newly acquired firearms to A... despite the presence of B. I...

Please Help - I can't seem to find a 22lr rimfire like this

Who said anything about a pistol? I think the consensus here was to forget the 22lr and get an SKS. Unless I've been mistaken about the SKS, I thought that was a rifle. Personally, I'd rather have an M14 or something of that nature shooting 7.62NATO. Maybe get a through&through and hit more...

    Gun etiquette

I'd only ever met B once before. I'm sure B has or had a father somewhere but as we're all 30+ yrs old, I'd say its more of an issue with him.

    Gun etiquette

Thanks for all the opinions and feedback. I plan to call A soon to talk about the incident and as for B, aside from me personally involved in making sure he learns gun safety, he won't touch any of my firearms and I'm not going anywhere near live ammo with him. Its sad, he said he owned guns...

Put an SKS on layaway today!!

Note... don't buy the detachable "duck bill" hi-cap mags. From my experience, they're crap and aren't worth the money spent on them. Buy yourself a bunch of the little metal stripper clips and practice with them. Also, Cabelas also sells an aftermarket stock for the SKS with an adjustable...
