He brought a gun to a knife fight,

Sorry

but, "We had no intentions of harming him," . . . I'd have had EVERY intention of harming him. Invading my home is a really bad idea.

Zero combat survival skills, unless the gun was thrown after they stabbed him. Cant wait to find out with what. Badguys-0 Goodguys-n-gals-1.

That would be great if the gun was thrown out after they stabbed him... Maybe they stabbed him, threw his gun out, and are getting away with it now because they can now claim "We had no intentions of harming him,...." while they actually stabbed him to death; with knitting needles.

Plenty of documented cases of people getting the bad guy's gun and either
A) not knowing how to use it
B) the gun was malfunctioning or empty
C) Discarding it
D) Emptying it...in a neutral direction, not at the bad guy.

Some interesting psychology behind C and D.

and if I were to talk to a newspaper, especially in Richmond, the only words out of my mouth would be "I was just trying to stop him". No I take that back, my only words would be "no comment".

That kind of reminds me of movies where the good guy, to symbolize being the good guy, takes the gun from the bad guy he just fought, (or out of a safety deposit box, etc) and just throws it away instead of keeping it. Like only bad guys have guns.

Some folks here would say these people should have been armed some will just call them names ect some will dog them out for not owning guns.

I think most gun owners keep their guns locked up and unloaded including me. In this case simply owning a gun would not have helped. Knowing how to use one would have been capitol.

Just because some one can own a gun does not mean they should. Some folks dont care either way about guns. Some suport guns while not owning them.

My point here folks is the strong should protect the weak. Please understand guns are not for every one.

It could have been a sword, a fire poker or any number of objects.
The tossing the gun like it was an evil talisman was hilarious. Some sheeple.

I can see it now, thinking the gun will magicly gain free will and shoot them, so they pick up the firearm and throw it causing it to discharge and prove them right, it really is just waiting to shoot at them :neener:

"Quick throw the gun outside before it hurts someone!"

locked up and unloaded including me.

Your bad. If you can't use it proficiently . . . learn. If you'd rather not learn, learn any way.

I am very porficient with all of my guns
Just because I keep them locked up does not mean I am not proficient.
Bad in my case is a matter of oponion

It is a choice I make because I can not bring a gun with me to work not even in the car on my off days I go home and get it. When I get back home it gets emptied and locked up as I do not have time in the morning to do it before I go to work. Like I said its a choice I make.

I think some folks carry a gun because they are paranoid but I do not ridicule them for it. So please do not ridicule me for my choice.

I can understand keeping them locked up when not at home, but I think it is prudent to have a loaded one nearby while I am home.

you know right wrong or indiffrent

I have seen 36 years and never needed a gun in my house
My dad has seen 63 years and never needed a gun in the house
My grandmother saw 86 years and never needed a gun in the house.

true you never know what will happen, however you could light off a nuclear pistol off in my living room and I will never know it. there is only 5 things that will ever wake me up
1. My wife
2. my babby
3. my alarm clock
4. sun rise
5. the bells at the fire station
Thats it this is why I have a security system. I have a few suprises for an intruder all over the house. I feel that when I am home a gun is not necessary for me to have. again my choice

and folks can argue any point but you dont keep a spare battery in your trunk with a full gas can just because you might........

So please do not ridicule me for my choice.

No ridicule intended . . . my words were offered as advice from one who HAS had to unexpectedly defend himself at home (and it WAS at night and said event allowed me insufficient time to retrieve a gun from the vault had that been the case, load same, and defend myself). The right to "keep" but not bear arms is your personal choice. I have raised Kids, and have effectively kept them & the loaded firearms separate. I sincerely hope both you & your kin continue to experience the safe conditions your homes have realized. If you wish to keep your firearms unloaded & not ready & accessible, that is up to you. My preference is mine. I offered my comments in good faith; feel free to refuse them. Advice/opinions are just that . . . advice & opinions. However, if I somehow offended you, that was not my intent. For the record, I'm not paranoid . . . I am, however, availed of the means to protect myself in an efficient manner, if necessary when at home or otherwise legally in a position to do so. I wish you well, Sir. Oh, and I DO have dual batteries in my Jeep . . . my choice.

I've been on Church Hill. It was one of the best neighborhoods back in the days of the Civil War. It's not the worse right now, but you can see how parts of it has declined and is starting to pick up again.

Didn't even say how or what they stabbed him with?? So they THREW the gun out and THEN grabbed a knife?

Also, how many times before people learn to keep their doors locked? Only time mine are unlocked is when I'm opening them, and then they're locked back no matter what time it is.

Also, I understand them not wanting their name in the reports (I probably wouldn't even talk to the media), but then the writer practically puts their address and other identifying features of the house in the article...... 700 block, street name, storm door, etc....

You guys might be making a false assumption. That being that the BG's pistol was a beautifully customized 1911 race-gun, and the homeowner had a Cub Scout knife.

I have a great set of pistols and rifles, many customized. However I also have some great EDC knives. My current carry is an Emerson HD-7 with a mirror finished edge. Within contact distances, I can injure you a lot worse than with a cheap zinc-framed POS and a few .22 Shorts.

Remember, we all have comfort zones and instincts. I work with knives, of all brands, every day. If I can grasp you in a firm hold, slice up a few of your tendons and poke around several times for your femoral artery, I think you'd be begging to be shot.

This case is yet another shining example of why I carry at home. It's too bad for the guy who decides to home invade me when I'm working late one night or even during the day.

Your response is better for expressing manliness and is the response I'd prefer to hear. His response is better for him in court, if any.

It never ceases to amaze me how some people can read a case like this and nevertheless pull out the paranoid card as if the case is make believe. I'm not trying to ridicule you in particular, just making an observation.

My first impression was "why throw away a gun you could use to end the home invasion?" But it sounds like they were hand to hand rolling around with this guy. They may not have had to oppertunity to use the gun if a family member was under or over him, and chose to get the gun out of the home invaders reach should he break loose from whoever was holding him. Did they throw the evil knife out also?

This account could fit in the thread awhile back that "a gun is not a magic tailsman". Shure wasn't for that home invader.

"I have a few suprises for an intruder all over the house."

If they're booby traps, get rid of them and load a gun for HD. Booby traps have been deemed illegal and you can and will be prosecuted in any state. Federal law I think? Or maybe just a law all states have chosen to enact. In any case, if I felt the need to set up surprises, it'll be something to slow the intruder down and make enough noise to wake me. It'll be up to me to defend my home and family, not a booby trap. Besides, if you have a family, booby traps are dicey.

Wow I never thought some one would come up with that!

what I ment by suprises are my various "non weapons" ball bats knives tire thumpers I even have a 6' pike pole, I live in a small house that is even smaller when you put furniture in it.

I've seen 27 years and never needed a fire extinguisher in my house.
hey good for you Ive got one too but I dont walk around my house with it. You picked a poor arguement with that example I never said I dont have a gun in my house. I never said I dont have ammo. I never said Its not near by nor did I say I couldnt readily get to it. It goes in the safe I can get to it rather quickly. I do not walk around my house with one in my pocket I do not need to. If you feel you do fine do so I encourage it.

and folks can argue any point
