After being in business since the 1950's , High Bridge Arms has thrown in the towel after the city of San Fransisco enacted new regulations that require video tape of all transactions and turn it over to police on a weekly basis. Basically this was the straw that broke the camel's back.

The shop feels that the city is specifically targeting them. Already they been ordered to have video cameras on the exterior, barriers outside around the shop and cannot display ads in their store window.

It's a shame how San Fransisco intimidated High Bridge Arms into going out of business and it can happen elsewhere as well. We have read about the proposal in Seattle to tax ammo and guns. We need to challenge these ordinances and proposals, maybe the next shop that closes might be the one in your own town.

"Surrender: San Fran's iconic, last gun shop to close over new regulations"

"This time, it's the idea of filming our customers taking delivery of items after they already completed waiting periods," Alcairo said. "We feel this is a tactic designed to discourage customers from coming to us.

"This year, it's this and next year will probably be something else," Alcairo added. "We don't want to wait for it."

Darn shame, but oh well.

San Fran didn't do this, "The People" of San Francisco did this. Their officials they elected carried out the will of the people.

Can't bash a government that does what it's asked.

I do find it odd that they want to close because they have to send footage to the police. If they have nothing to hide then they should have nothing to fear comrades.

Using California logic: Gun owner = republican, Republican = Law Enforcement lovefest.

BY GOLLY THE MATH JUST ISNT ADDING UP!!!

I'm sure citizens of San Francisco are feeling so much safer already with the news of this last gun shop closing it's doors.

will the last one escaping Ca....please turn off the lights....
:D

It's too bad, but I'm sure the people running guns in there illegally will get more business. I mean at this point in that area it's pretty much government and criminals that are armed, and like the saying goes, 'i intend to be among the latter'.

I wonder if the shop considered relocating outside the walls? Anyone from that area in the know?

Coming soon to a store near you; once CA sneezes, the rest of the country soon catches a cold...............
It was not a sneeze, and it was not a cold that the rest of the country caught.

I hope some rocket scientist of a lawyer that wants to make his name known jumps on this.

:barf:Of course they were targeted, of course it is harassment, and of course it works. I doubt the gun shop has anything to hide since the buyers have already been subjected to a background check and waiting period. I would imagine in such an anti-gun environment though, that customer's would not enjoy the video experience and sales would drastically slow. I have always enjoyed my visits to the San Francisco area, but It's difficult to read the papers or watch TV news due to the extreme Liberal Left bias of the media there. That council person is no doubt being applauded, and ensured of reelection, due to his courageous action in pushing through this new ordinance. Yes, from what I can tell, the politician is carrying out the will of the electorate......ymmv

Not according to the people that own the business, you know the ones that know what they're talking about.

Even if that was true, if the reason their not profitable is because city imposed laws and regulations force overhead up to a point that they can't compete with other businesses 5 miles out of the city limits that's still not their fault, nor the fault of their customers.

If it was still profitable, they would still be in business.

The SF Board of Supervisors has taken care of that too. They forced an excellent gun shop, SF Gun Exchange, to close in 1999 by imposing a special tax on all gun and ammo sales.

In order to appreciate what's going on here, let's define some terms:

bigot [big-uh t] noun
1. a person who is utterly intolerant of any differing creed, belief, or opinion.

discrimination [dih-skrim-uh-ney-shuh n] noun
1. an act or instance of discriminating, or of making a distinction.
2. treatment or consideration of, or making a distinction in favor of or against, a person or thing based on the group, class, or category to which that person or thing belongs rather than on individual merit:
racial and religious intolerance and discrimination.

intolerance [in-tol-er-uh ns] noun
1. lack of tolerance; unwillingness or refusal to tolerate or respect opinions or beliefs contrary to one's own.
all from http://dictionary.reference.com

If the members of the SF Board of Supervisors exercised the sort of intolerance and discrimination they've applied to gun owners on members of any race, creed, national group or religion they'd be denounced as the bigots they are.

So have we made strides to eliminate bigotry from society or have the targets merely shifted according to the whims of social fashion?

isn't san Francisco where that illegal alien murdered that American citizen with a gun bought from that store? oh, never mind, he got the gun from a federal agent.

We get their refugees here . They come to Portland OR and the rest of Oregon to buy up housing so we can enjoy higher housing costs like they have in San Francisco. They also come to live somewhere where in the words of my famous in some circles ex wife who is also a San Francisco refugee was once quoted as saying " The poor are not discriminated against" . Once they get here they try to make Portland more like San Francisco .
