Stainless, flash chrome hammer and trigger. Decent shape with "CYA"?? Stamped on the frame.

Guy wants $435 tax Inc and a box of Remington 110 JHPs thrown in.

Is that a good price?

Thanks

The K frame is my favorite shooter. A stainless K with 3" barrel at that price? If the condition is reasonable , then YES.

Shoot it the rest of your life , regardless of your current age.

Ok. Bit of research. CYA, California Youth Authority. They sold a bunch years ago.

for $435 out the door you can CYA pretty good with that 3" model 64 and a box of ammo.

I would expect flash-chromed hammer & trigger signify pre-MIM construction and no internal lock. If you can find out from the seller what the model's dash-number and serial number is (located on the butt or on the frame where the model number is stamped, behind the yoke. Swing out the cylinder to see), that will help date when it was made.

To the Old Fuff, the asking price is outrageous, but not unreasonable. Money ain't worth nothing no more. :banghead:

The 3" length is one of my favorites. You can sit and not have the gun-butt dig you under the ribs. And unlike a snubby, you have a full length ejector rod.

The "dash 3" referred to an engineering change that moved the gas ring from the yoke (the hinge part the cylinder is attached to when it's swung out to load or unload) to the cylinder, and was introduced in 1977 to date. In 1982 the pin through the topstrap and barrel was eliminated. Not a sure thing, but if the barrel in this revolver is pinned it was likely made between those two dates.

All other things being equal, in my book it would be more valuable then one made later.

I would say "nope" not a good price.

Look around on the various gun websites that sell surplus guns, like Bud's Gun Shop or J&G Sales. You can find these guns on sale for as low as $299, like I did with this excellent condition Model 64 last year:

This is a security guard trade in gun. I switched out the grips to these awesome Pachmayr camo ones. So cool! You can get one of these at a better price OP. Either talk that guy way down, or look elsewhere and don't waste your mula mula.

Depends on how you look at it.

For what you paid you got an excellent revolver, but also a very common one.

The 3-inch version is much more scarce, and in greater demand. I also presume (because it hasn't been mentioned otherwise) that hammer has the conventional spur and the single-action mode is still intact. Those two factors alone will kick up the price.

But are these features important enough to the buyer to justify the additional cost? If not I would suggest that he take a look at J&G Sales selection. ;)

Around here, that gun would go for around $400 in very good shape. The fact that it's a 3" model makes it much more desirable as others have said. The K frames are my favorite, personally. The price isn't really good, but it's not far off. Just my opinion.

It WAS $435 tax Inc, without the ammo. The 50 round box is of .38 Spl. Remington 110-grain SJHP (HTP) ammo was thrown in. That's 26 bucks or so and I plan to use them in my 642

I plan on picking it up next week.

The 3 inch stainless guns are as scarce as hen's teeth around my stompng grounds here in the Pac NW.

For 435, I would already have that gun in my hot little hands, and would be giddy with excitement.

I would do the deal for $435. A little bit more than what I would like to pay but as others have already noted I'm not seeing that many 3" Model 64s out there nowadays.

I would say in Texas $435 is fair price if the gun is in very good condition. Probably the only downside is holster selection is more meager for 3" barreled revolvers. That is ok because 3" OR 4" K frame is only little more concealable than fully e...... p.....

I don't think the light bullet ammo will shoot to the sights. Those were regulated to be "on" with a six-o-clock hold at 15 yds. with 158 grain bullets.
I'd try Speer's Short Barrel 135 grain load or the 158 grain lead SWC-HP for defense use.

The price for a three-inch one in really nice condition is not too bad. I'd take it, if all checks out okay. Be sure to check for cylinder timing and endshake, etc.

El Paso Saddlery and other custom holster makers can provide suitable leather.
You may get really lucky and find a used holster by Bianchi or Safariland.

I'd rather have the .357 version, Model 65. But a Model 64 is also a really good item. A .38 isn't the best choice if you may need to kill a bear, but with the right ammo, it may well work, and for cougars or men, etc., snakes and whatnot, a .38 with Plus P ammo is enough.

I think you're lucky to have this one, if it's as it should be,

Well I do admit, I do have a 'few' guns like the one I'm looking at.

But then I'm a fool for K frames. Particularly shorter barreled ones.

Three inch barrel is harder to find than your 4" barrel. If you looked around last year you would have found the same 4" model 64 for $250. I got two for $499 shipped from SOG last year.

Get it. It is "pre-MIM" and "pre-Hillary hole." You don't have to tell folks the CYA means California Youth Authority. You can tell them that is what the revolver does!

I'd jump on it if it's ringing your bell!

I have one - and always wondered what the CYA stood for. It shoots real good too!
