A few weeks ago I realized I didnt own any centerfire semi auto's. I already had the gear to reload 45 ACP as I had revolvers and load them by the hundreds if not thousands. Maybe a 1911. Havent owned one in years. Figured I'd pick something up where my wife works . They sell guns and I get a discount. So they had Ruger SR1911's for $649, I got 15% off for being married to my wife and another 10% off for being a veteran. Got the gun under $500 . Can't beat that.

In the last week Ive put 250 or so rounds through it. Hasnt skipped a beat. Havent really tested it for max accuracy 'cause I dont really do that sort of thing but my son and I play a game. We go down into a deep draw where we go shooting. Blow up a ballon or too and let the wing take it up the draw. I usually start blasting away with the SAA's and my son is shooting his buckmark. The SAA's are wonderful guns but I'll admit they are bullet hoses. My son usually pops it out of the air at under 40 yards and I get it 3 out of 10 times. . If it gets beyond 60 yards I pull out the SR1911 and finish the job. Hasnt failed me yet.

You're absolutely correct sir! A Ruger SR1911 for under $500; you sure can't beat a deal like that! Seems like everything is going your way: a quality gun, at a great price, courtesy of having a spouse who works at a place that sells guns! Sounds like every gun lovers dream come true. Enjoy!

Wow, that's a great deal. Mine was more like 650, and I consider it to be a good deal even at that price. Out of 5 1911s, it's the only one that has never given me any trouble. I'm hoping that Ruger gets around to making an Officer-sized or CCO model someday; I'd snap one up for carry purposes.

You and me both! Would love to see Ruger come out with a CCO version of their SR1911.

I bought the Commander version and later the Lightweight Commander version. Both have been flawless and are great shooters. Throw is fantastic customer service from Ruger, and IMO they're one of the best bargains among 1911's.

You got a heck of a bargain. An American made 1911 in stainless and you can't even touch that kind of quality and price with some of the junk that Armscor is producing these days for the same or even more money.

I just wish Ruger would listen to the customers and drop the black accent parts. The finish is poor and the look just doesn't go with the gun. Switch to all stainless accent parts and that would be one slick gun. But changing out all of those black parts with stainless aftermarket parts starts adding up quickly.

I've been debating the idea of turning one of those commanders into a bobtail, almost like a Dan Wesson CBOB clone. Machining off the roll marks on the slide and lawyer talk on the dust cover and doing a DIY bobtail job. I already have a spare bobtail MSH just sitting around.

That is one good looking pistol and a terrific bargain. If they made it in 9mm I think I'd be all over it.

Thanks for sharing. And my compliments on the grips too. Very distinguished. Although I do like the design and color of the original Ruger grips too.

my SR was 900€.
And broke the front sight - early model.
Fine gun with quality or milspec mags. Bad gun with other mags.

Wow, how big a balloon are we talking about? :what:

I'd love to see some video :p

12 inch dollar store balloons. We usually pick up 100 or so for the trip up there. I'd post a video but I'm afraid it probably looks as unsafe as it sounds and the folks used to regulation shooting ranges might get their skivvies in a wad :). Most of our good shooting spots are a good 5 miles from the nearest person.

Nice buy I had one loved it the cmd that is I'd love another maybe in 9mm :D I hope Ruger is listening
