Anyone buying and putting away AR lower receivers?

For many years my goal was to eventually have a complete lower for every upper (many are pistol/SBR uppers), finally got there.

This past year (although not so much the last few months) stripped lowers have been readily available around here for $40-60. I couldn't resist grabbing just one more when I could get them for <$50 locally with no transfer or shipping fees.

So now I aspire to having an upper for every lower :)
Recently I've fleshed out the parts to complete all the lowers, now I'm accumulating parts to build some uppers, and debating about alternate calibers and other options.

I think now is a good time to buy parts and set them aside for future builds as prices have generally never been better, but for speculating about the future, remember that in past panics it wasn't all that useful to have a stripped lower when virtually all other parts needed to complete them were scarce and over-priced.

If some one wants to speculate and buy lowers in hopes of selling them at higher prices later, fine with me, I'm a free-market fan.

In the event there is a ban in the future, it's possible existing guns may be grandfathered in. So pre-ban lowers may be useful to have even if not completed. Under the last ban, except for "high capacity" magazines, I don't believe manufacture of non serial numbered parts was circumscribed.

So eventually the supply line will catch up and parts may be available to complete existing lowers. A lot less expensive to put away a few $40 lowers than complete guns if that's your thinking.

And if nothing happens, well, still a lot less monetary risk. Just based on normal cost of living increases/inflation, you will probably always be able to get your money back on unused stripped lowers. Maybe not so much on pieced together complete guns though.

If the worst case scenario occurs, if all AR's are recalled, you've still only lost the price of lowers, not complete guns.

I'm buying components to build ammo. I have all the hardware I need. Just exactly what are you going to do with an AR lower when congress regulates the sale of AR's? I suppose you could build another one but you'll be stuck with it. How many do you need?

Lots of companies building those things. When congress regulates AR's, which I'm sure they will, companies will be dumping their stock at discount prices, wait and see. Discontinued merchandise.

"If it ever comes to turn ins required. Bet a lot of freshly stripped lowers get turned in"

:banghead::neener::cuss:

Most probably.

I've run out of ARs that I'd like to build and I've had two stripped lowers on hand for a couple years.

I'll probably make sure I have parts on hand except barrel and sights to assemble them if the urge moves me.

I posted in another forum where the same exact question was asked, I have four bare receivers on the shelf with lower parts kits for each. The lowers are not for sale where i can gouge someone if times return like the post Obama elections. I am more inclined to give a part away than sell it if the need was great so I darn sure do not stockpile parts and ammo to gouge others.

Not stocking up on AR's, but sure as heck am voting in a primary we're having here in Wisconsin tomorrow. I think we need to talk less about stocking up and do more to vote ourselves and get other like minded folks out there voting!!! That's the only way we can insure our 2nd amendment rights remain. Cheers!

(or as they would say in Chicago, vote early and vote often!)

This is not recommended, but some people will not comply to these unconstitutional laws. Some law enforcement officers don't even support current laws now (some I know personally will not enforce gun bans because the officers are gun owners themselves.

Anyway, I just bought 3 stripped lowers and one LPK at pretty good prices locally. The small FFL guy I know is very nice, and he showed me his order of lowers which was a box that contained 50 brand new receivers and let me pick from it directly

With parts kits under $400, getting a few of those also.........................

Still making sure I have at least 6 magazines and 2K SS109/M855 for each and every rifle.

Going to finish out a few unmarked lowers for my personal use in the next few weeks also.

Gun show prices on stripped lowers were high yesterday, most hovering around the $100 mark.

Added one today, so three projects over the next month or so.
