LWRC M6A2 - Worth the money?

I have 6 in 5.56 and a R.E.P.R 308! Finest piston type AR's in my opinion. Danny Defense makes a decent one also and there are others that are OK!

At that price a FN SCAR would be an option, or two Beretta ARXs.

Plus the SCAR was designed as a short stroke piston rifle from the start.

They're a perfectly good piston AR, but I'm definitely not sold on the idea that AR need to be or should be piston weapons. I've been doing quite a bit of shooting with suppressed DI AR15s, and other than needing a gas buster charging handle there have been no problems.

In general I'll take the accuracy of the DI gun instead.

I have pretty extensive experience with the M6 (not by choice) and I will say that it isn't even almost worth the $. The service life on barrels and piston components is inferior to most DI AR's, the accuracy is wanting, and all the parts on the top half are proprietary. I would much sooner buy a DI AR and just clean it.

CDNN had been running a sale on those uppers some time back, around $700 ish if I remember correctly. Picked one up, and no issues suppressed or un-suppressed. Ejection pattern changes are about it, but are consistent in each mode. I took my time breaking in the barrel, which is medium contour, and was very surprised at the accuracy. Generally one MOA, but often about 1/2 MOA and slightly less (77 and 69 grain BTHP), with a 4x ACOG, Geiselle trigger.

There was no way I was gonna pay the original $1800 ish for an upper, but when they went on sale, I decided to pick one up, and am extremely pleased with its performance. I do remove any copper fouling about every 200 rounds, mostly because I'm still evaluating accuracy vs fouling, but am very impressed with it so far. The accuracy remains sub to 1 MOA with that aforementioned ammo, as long as I maintain the copper removal regimen.

It's got approximately 2k through it.

I just dont understand the cleaning issue people have with DI AR's. Clean it with a oily rag every 1,000rds. Doesnt seem that complicated...

I've got three LWRC's...two 5.56's and one Six8. All are beautiful, accurate, and to this point 100% reliable. Will they do anything that a comparable D.I. Gun can't do...probably not. If however you appreciate a well-built, semi-custom gun, you won't be disappointed. As to whether they are "worth" it, that is subjective. In my case, I think they are, but to others, perhaps not.
