So im working on putting another sporterized arisaka back together (or i will be when it gets here), and im in need of a cocking knob/safety, firing pin, and spring. I cant seem to find any at a reasonable price, from the usual places i look. Plenty of bolt bodies and extractors, no firing pins or other parts.

Whats the deal with this, id assume the bodies would be worth as much or More than a firing pin, or coxking knob.

I visit the military collectors site frequently (looking for info on M1 carbines...) and noted that there's a board there just for Japanese rifles, etc. They also have a pretty large sale/WTB board as well, that you might want to look (if you haven't already done so...).]

I did a site search there, didnt find much. The parts are available, but the cost difference is what gets me.

Yep checked them. And your right complete bolts probably gonna run me 110-140, parts will be an easy 100. Ill have a bolt to try and ruin if i get the whole thing also :D

LoonWulf,
You can use Type 99 bolt knob and firing pin in a Type 38 bolt but both have to be installed as a pair. Vice versa does not work.

This guy makes reproduction parts for Arisaka--goes by Don's Reproductions

This guy who I have not personally dealt with

RC Arms (bought Mauser parts from him a long time ago) one of Gunboard's sponsors.

There is also a gunsmith on the West Coast who makes the reproduction safeties and firing pins for the arisakas T38 and T99 for less than $40 each last time that I checked, Numrich aka gpc corp was selling what I assume was this gunsmith's product at a higher price.

I bought a T99 repro firing pin from him about 6-7 years ago and it did require a degree of fitting to make it work with my bolt. You will need a firing pin protrusion gage or carefully measure the fp protrusion if you go this route.

Occasionally, you will see a good buy on a genuine safety knob on ebay (especially an altered or last ditch safety knob) but seldom a bargain on a firing pin. However, some of the safety knobs may be problematic and not engage properly.

Thanks guys, some usefull stuff there. Ill contact the guy making repros, I dont care if stuff is original. Ebays was where i was going as last gamble, parts on there are usually a little more than can be found if someones actually stocking stuff. Again appreciated.

*edit* ya know, sometimes full circles a good place.....snaged a newly posted (well since i last checked) complete bolt off ebay for 90. Even with the repro saftey id have been over that for a saftey, pin, and spring
