The goal is to build a lightweight gun on one of the intgrated-stock GWACS CavArms lowers. My two choices (both stainless) are a 1:7 pencil profile or a 1:8 twist A2 profile. I only shoot 55 grain bullets, so the 1:7 twist really isn't needed. My question is whether you would you expect any noticeable gain in accuracy with 55 grain bullets in the A2 1:8, or would you just save a few ounces and go with the pencil barrel?

I would save the weight. I don't think you'll gain anything with the A2 profile and I don't think you'll lose anything with the 1:7 twist.

Either barrel could shoot the bullet in question better. Plenty of 1:7 twist barrels shoot light weight bullets very well.

I'd go with the pencil barrel. Not only does it save you some ounces, it saves it from the end of the gun where you would feel it more. Think of it as a weight on the end of a lever.

Faxon "Gunner " profile are some fine shooting light weight barrels, 1/8 and QPQ nitride treated. Of the dozen or more Faxon barrels i have my favorite AR sports one of the Gunner barrels. I have put hundreds of rounds through it in a very short time and although the barrel was smoking the targets were still falling as fast as i could get sights on them. The Gunner takes a .625 gas block.

5.56mm can't drive bullets fast enough for 1:7 to be problematic. I have rifles with 1:7, 1:8 and 1:9, they all shoot everything from 40-69 gr. just fine.

Decide based on other criteria.
