If price were not a consideration and you could only have one bolt action .308 rifle to suit all your needs (hunting, target shooting, etc.), which manufacturer would you choose? What model and barrel length? If it's not listed, please post it.

Thanks!

Tikka. I have their Scout CTR rifle in .308 Win with a 20" barrel. It's a heavier barrel than most of their rifles, but scoped out with a bipod and sling I believe I'm still under 10 pounds. That rifle is an absolute tack driver, and is every bit as accurate as my Accuracy International (admittedly the AI is probably my favorite rifle, but it is a more purpose-built item and weighs twice as much). Anyway, I've thought about buying a second Tikka just like the one I have because I've enjoyed that rifle so much. I've had people offer to buy it from me at the range in the past, but I'm not selling it.

If I'm doing my part it can routinely print 5-shot 100 yard groups in the 0.35 inch range... that's not every group I shoot, but it's a solid half inch gun for me.

Well we aren't the ones that have to use your rifle, but I'd add Kimber and Winchester to your list, as those are the two I've narrowed it down to for my go-to .30-06 later this year. Both stainless actions with fiberglass or similar stocks, both within a weight range I prefer with barrel lengths that are fine with me, and both CRF. But those are features I want, so... what features do you want?

I have a Remington 700 LTR and it is a great hunting rifle for my needs. I hunt mostly in the mountains and like the size, weight, power of this rifle. Some would say it's too heavy, but when I am sucking wind at altitude I like a little bit more weight for steady shooting. It is also superbly accurate with my handloaded Barnes TSX load. What's not to like?

I have several .308s, imagine that. favorite is an old Remington 788 manufactured in 1971. .308 is one of those calibers that works in short and long barrels. Savage makes some tack drivin rifles too.

Winchester Model 70 Featherweight in .308 for hunting. A Savage Model 10 Palma for target shooting. I can't accept the limitations of a hunting rifle as a true target gun, and I won't haul a true target gun through the backcountry. The Palma is laid out for prone shooting, which is my preferred target shooting discipline. The Featherweight is my ideal lightweight, handle almost any situation hunting rifle.

(However, for the current moment my .308 bolt action is an old Ruger 77 that was my grandfather's hunting rifle for the last 40 years.)

Check the Bergara B14 with a Remington 700 action blueprint and for equivalent price as a remington 700 SPS.
Build on the most popular action in the planet but it is like day and night. No better value on the market right now.
do a search this has been documented.

Have a Ruger Frontier and while it is a little short at both ends it can handle normal and long eye relief scopes, is accurate and I like it. For what I paid, I got a bargain.

Coloradokevin read my mind before I even read the responses. I have had the same experience as him with Tikka.

I have a Tikka T3 CTR in 308 Winchester and I've also been VERY happy with its performance.

The one I vote for is the one I have: a Ruger (can't believe you didn't include this make in the menu of choices:what:) Model 77 MKII, RSI International, having an 18" barrel with a Mannlicher style stock. I like the fact that this fast-handling, short-action carbine comes with open sights and a base/mount that is part of the receiver. I have a Leupold VariX II, 1x4 scope mounted on mine. With factory ammunition, I regularly get 1 1/2", 3-shot groups @ 100 yards. Nothing to brag about, maybe, but nothing to sneeze at either.

Tikka.

Guess everyone likes them as much as I do. They're kicking ass in the poll.
Not to split hairs here but I think that while the poll shows tikka is much liked, but only 9 folks like the tikka in this poll, 13 others would pick something else. I like em, but not enough for a one and only do all.

Other, Ruger GSR. Put a 1-6 FFP mounted traditionally over receiver.

I have only a CZ 550 in .308 and like it a lot for my .30 caliber needs. If money were no object I'm not sure what I'd have.

Lol ... Was just pointing out that they were the most popular.

Pretty good since about 10 years ago I'd pull the thing out and no one would know who they were. "Who makes THAT rifle?"

Agreed, if I were going for a dedicated varmint gun in another cartridge, it'd be that tikka. ;)

I have a couple of Kimber's in 308. I seem to use them to shoot everything. Woodchucks, elk, deer coyotes, Etc. I have lots of other choices but the kimbers are light and quick to the shoulder for me.

I have a left handed T3 lightweight in 308. It is one of my two most accurate riles. It's also my slickest handling rifle.

I vote Tikka.

The perfect all around 308 bolt rifle. Winchester 70 Extreme Weather in a McMillan Edge stock. Leupold VX-3, 2.5-8X36 scope in Talley lightweight mounts. Weight as shown 7.25 lbs.,along with a typical target at 200 yards. In the 7-8 years I've owned it has shoot everything from 130 gr to 165 gr bullets well under 1 MOA. with my hand loads.

You didn't have Blaser or Sharps-Borchardt (obviously would have to be a custom rifle on that action) listed, so I picked Remington, as in 40-XB.
