IMG_3321.JPG Does the trigger on this little pistol improve with use. I've been putting 20 or so rounds through it on my weekly visits to the range. I've managed to keep them on the target at 12 yards, but cant say with any kind of group. It's difficult to keep the front sight on target with that long rough trigger pull.

On another matter of the 200 hundred or so rounds fired thus far, three or four fail to chambers reveal a sizable ding into the FMJ bullets I'm hand loading for practice. Feed ramp strikes ? Can't help but wonder if every round is getting the same ding on the bullet nose. Can't help in the all ready not so great accuracy.

ugh... that's not good. What bullets and what's your OAL? Any malfunctions with factory ammo? Are you using factory mags?

Try using the tip of your trigger finger rather than the joint or the pad close to the joint. I have to.

100 grain FMJ seated somewhat short at .968. The factory ammo loaded for carry is even shorter. I've never shot factory ammo, just don't want to pay the freight.
I am using a cheap Lee setup and the OAL is varying between .968 and .960.

The problem may be the 100-gr bullet. When I experimented with them, they would not pass the "plunk test" in my LCP barrel when seated to book COAL.

90s and 95s fit just fine.

Regarding your question about the trigger and accuracy... After 500+ rounds, mine is still as long and heavy as it was when new. Nevertheless, I can easily keep all shots on a 3x5 card at 13 yards.

There may be something wrong with your gun, your technique, or it may simply not like the ammo you're using.

It was optimized to shoot factory ammo. Deviation from bullet weight and OAL is on the reloader. Lengthening the OAL is usually an attempt to increase accuracy and/or fps. If it makes it more unreliable it's not doing any good. It's competition bench rest hot rodding for a dead serious protection gun.

As for the trigger, if it's the 1st or 2d gen model with plain factory Ruger trigger, it's never been a great trigger. Exactly why Ruger came out with the red anodized aftermarket version and then changed over completely to the Glock style trigger on the LCP II. It was optimized for safe carry in a pocket first and foremost, and Ruger changed it to churn sales when they were already planning to offer an improved and upgraded model.

The LCP design will always have a long and heavy trigger pull. It's lighter than it could be, because of the recoil assist, partially cocking hammer, but it's still a DAO trigger.

For the Gen 1 LCP's, the Galloway trigger is a marked improvement. For the Gen 2's, it's only marginally so. The LCP II can be bought for less than $300 and has a considerably better trigger than even the aftermarket Galloway trigger in the original frame. I put a Galloway in one of my Gen 1's, and I'd recommend it highly for that. It is the same trigger as offered in the LCP Custom. I wouldn't spend the money for the marginal improvement over the Gen 2 trigger, however. The LCP II is certainly a less sleek design, but the trigger and LRHO is nice.

I'd also mention, however, the LCP's tend to be remarkably accurate. With sufficient practice to manage the DAO trigger, you'll likely find the LCP to be more than adequate. An improved trigger will help, but it's not nearly as important as the finger squeezing it. I have two Gen 1's, a Gen 2, a Custom, and most recently, an LCP II, and all of them have been remarkably accurate for their size.

For a loaded gun in my front pocket, I like the long trigger pull. Its a personal defense gun, not a range gun to say the least. I have two of them, both are gen II. They are accurate enough for their intended purpose, and I wouldn't even care if they had sights or not.... If I have to use it, it will be at very close range anyway.
