My youngest son, Isaac, ask me about building another AR. He told me that he wanted it in real and black and that he wanted to build it.
So I have beenlooking around and picking up a few parts here and there. Primary Arms had the GunTec billet upper and 15" M-Lok rail on sale for $149 so I ordered it. I also picked up a Mag Tactical lower from a local shop for $38. I also picked up the Strike Industries lightweight red take down pin set, dust cover and Phantom charging handle. (Isaac's a lefty) I got an Odin Works red extended mag release. If he likes the MFT butt stock, we'll go with it.
I have a few BCGs and my go with a black nitride one. I have a few different grips and will let him pick the one he likes.
Just need to order a lightweight barrel and red buffer tube.
Isaac doesn't know that I have most of the parts in. I plan to surprise him next week.

Sounds like a nice looking build!

Im always kinda surprised more folks dont go with colors other than black on their ars.

I want to do one all matching acid wash in red/black or red/orange, cant afford the cost of the ano tho lol. Maybe in the future.

My last one was $35. In the neighborhood of $40 is pretty easy these days. I have two in the safe, the Mag Tact and a PSA. $35 and $0 respectively.

That's a deal. If one keeps their eyes peeled and is willing to jump, there can be some deals to be had.

I love that MFT "minimalist" stock on my SBR, but on a carbine with that long rail it may end up being front heavy. Its gonna look good, that is for sure.

Looks awesome. He will dig it. I did a makeover on my sister's Dpms a while back minus a FF handguard. Did it with just some gray magpul furniture and red aluminum and pieces like trigger guard takedown pins mag release etc. It looked really cool. Not as cool as your red upper and handguard though.

Well the barrel has been ordered. Total with shipping was $88.
I have the gas block, gas tube, LPK , buffer and spring . Just need the red buffer tube. Should be able to have it built in a week or two.

I caught a hair this spring and did a Black & Red AR-15 myself - currently it's a pistol with a spare rifle stock and upper, until my Form 1 goes through, then the pistol extension will go back in the bin and the UBR will stay on all of the time. I wanted a PDW for the house/ranch, but needed an excuse to do another Optics Ready Service Rifle as a back up. So it has a 10.5" upper in 6.8SPC and a 20" 223 wylde.

Mine's not as much red, just accents. Charging handle, FA, BCG, mag release, trigger guard, scope mount, takedown & pivot pins, and selector were all available aftermarket in red, then I threw some Cerakote on the bolt catch and BAD lever. Trigger is an RRA Chromed NM, probably trade that out for a Geissele once my Form 1 gets back and I can leave it as a rifle. Still not happy with the CMP/NRA-HP rule change to require a quad rail up front, but I'm getting used to it again. Thought about hitting the screws on the MI rail with red too, but I keep telling myself I'll swap for an MK7 sooner than later on the rifle upper, so I'll cross that bridge when the new rail is installed.

I rode bulls for many years wearing red & black chaps & vest. Have a Mark II done up in red & black, and a 10/22 to go with it, as well as red & black laminate stocks on a couple rifles. Always been partial to that combination.

Pics, Pics. You must post pics!!

Dang, that is going to be pretty.

Flat-top gas block (no front sight)?
Castle nut sling point?
I have a few low profile gas blocks and gas tubes, but I could order one of those black gas tubes.
I thought about getting the new Strike Industries enhanced castle nut with the red extended end plate , but $50 seems a bit much. So I'm just going to use a standard castle nut and single point sling adapter end plate.
For sights I'm going to use Magpul MBUS, I can get a set for just over $60.

Well, I wish you would hurry up, the anticipation is killing me! ;) I also think red and black look great together, and I am looking forward to seeing the completed project

That's going to look great. I am pretty sure I saw a site selling red magazines as well a other anodized parts like that upper.

I saw those mags too. May have to place an order with CDNN.

I'm going to stop by my local gun shop and pick up the red buffer tube set that he has for $45. All I really need is the buffer tube.
It may be next weekend before it's built. Once I get the buffer tube, I could have it built in less then an hour, but I'm going to let Isaac build this one. He's been staying at his mother's the last few weeks and only coming home on the weekends.
I picked him up Friday after work and the first thing he did was get on the XBox One when we got home. I told him I had something I wanted to show him. We went into the shop and I handed him the barrel. He said it was pretty light and asked if it was for a new build. I opened the GunTec box and showed him the red upper and rail. "That's mine!!" Was the first thing he said. I told him it was just another build, He told me it was his.
He wanted to build it right then and there, but I told him I didn't have all the parts. So it will have to wait till next weekend .
