I am in the process of cleaning the copper from several barrels that have never been thoroughly cleaned. Using Hoppes, followed by M-Pro 7 Copper Remover. It doesn't seem to be very effective, frankly.
So i'm thinking, since the active ingredient in cover solvents is ammonia, why not just soak the barrel in straight ammonia?
Anyone tried that?
What works for you?

Forget ammonia (ask me how long it took me to figure that out)
pick up KG-12 and have done w/ it in 15 minutes or less.

Shooters Choice MC #7 works well for me. Sweets 7.62 is the most aggressive copper cleaner I have tried. Follow the directions on the Sweet's.

After the barrels are clean of copper , maybe try-
All Vihtavuori reloading powders produced today have an added decoppering agent, also called anti-fouling agent.

The Alliant Reloder series has it also, except #17 powder does not.

There are other brands in some types.

My favorite is Patch Out. I used 7.62 for years but was concerned with the possibility of steel damage if not used properly. Patch Out works as well on as 7.62 on copper without the risk of damage. It's brother product, Wipe Out is easier to use but much more expensive. Your choice.
