Shopping with price as the overriding criteria, I bought a Taurus PT111. Factory ammunition went through it fine. Starting load handloads weren't enough to cycle it, but once I got further up the ladder, it had had no problems and has been a very satisfying gun.

I would keep saving money to increase your budget, and get out to your local gun range and rent every DA/SA compact and full size 9mm service pistol that you can get your hands on. I'd also recommend you try out a few striker fired pistols which will get you closer to your budget limit. I'd do this for a least six months and in the meantime you can save up additional funds to make an informed purchase based on trying out all the rental guns. I can't really recommend a new in box gun that meets all of your requirements

Best bet is to see if you can shoot a handful of popular 9MM pistols and see what you like.

It appears to me that if you are looking at a Shield, you are looking for a smallish CC pistol. There are a number of them in your price range. And there are often deals on them these days.

Figure out what you want first and then find the best deal.

You can probably find a good used Bersa Thunder 9UC Pro for around $350. Great guns for the money.

Hi! I just placed a order for S & W 915 9mm $ 325.00 . I had one several years ago and sold it because it was worn too much , but now i take another back and hopefully I still like it . but this gun for CCW is a little bit heavy. Thanks.
Great gun, very underrated, you'll be happy with it for nightstand/ target use and the way metal framed guns are headed, they will be going for a grand in a couple of years. You can always pick up a micro-poly-flavor-of-the-month (MPFM) for cheap later to stick in your pocket.

I am going to concern S & W M & P shield 9mm but actually I don’t like DOA gun because the trigger is too heavy , is it said that shield 9mm’s trigger is 12-15 lbs ? If someone can recommend a 9mm pistol with Single/double action, the price is not greater than $350 will be appreciated. Please tell me your opinion about shield 9mm.or it's trigger safety.

Thanks.

You want the best 9mm pistol?

Answer: Glock.

Well.. I'll share with you the path that I have taken over the past 16 months....

Coming from 35+ years of 1911 (Single actions & some pretty nice triggers).. I decided I wanted to find a good EDC unit. So.... after totally nerding out, I decided that I was willing to go to the 9mm round for EDC protection from humans. So, that opened up a lot of options. After much consideration, I decided to give the Glock 19 a solid try. Got a bunch of P-mags for them, (worked flawlessly) and went to work on the gun itself with a Dremel and a stipple iron. Added some Ghost products inside which significantly improved the trigger. Never really did get that to where I liked how it felt in my hands. Took a while, but was able to get decent with accuracy during several pistol classes. (as the operator, I accept full responsibility for accuracy challenges) During some of the classes, I was able to take a Shield for a spin. Even after the work to the G19, I always liked the feel of the M&P products in my hands, and frankly, I was a much better shot, naturally. The Shields are certainly slimmer, which results in a different feel, but I do like it better. So I jumped on the Palmetto State deal a couple months ago, with the factory rebate, and got 2. (one for my wife, if she chooses). I stumbled across a used M&P9 (full size) on GB, and picked it up, got some extra mags, and a basic OWB holster. Then... Palmetto State popped up with the VP9Tac deal, I just had to try it.
So yesterday, a buddy and I went out to shoot. We brought Shields, M&P9 full size, H&K VP9tac and VP9 std, Sig P226, G19, and we just ran the waddin' out of all of them.

  • Even still, shooting the Glock 19, I think I'd still rather throw it at a bad guy than shoot it, just don't like how they feel. Well made, reliable as anything, just feel terrible to me.
  • After yesterday, I'm so darn impressed with the Shields, I plan to EDC that unit. Triggers on mine seemed just fine. Even shot some +P+ just to see how it handled it... couldn't hardly tell a difference from 115gr target stuff. pretty darn impressed.
  • Shot the M&P9, and it felt great. Trigger a little gritty, but shot OK. I suspect a good cleaning and maybe a little polishing will go a long way.
  • Then I pulled out the VP9..... Oh my.... Everything that M&P does, that VP did better. Liked it so well, I bought another when I got home. Already have a buyer for the M&P9 for what I got into it.
Just my recent experience...

You may be able to find a Stoeger Cougar for about your price range. Beretta machinery with a different name. I've bought two and they eat everything I feed them and are accurate enough for defense work and then some. All metal so if you're looking at a Shield it may be a bit larger than you are looking for, but it is a fine weapon.

Also in addition to the SAR there's the witness pavona. Currently 291 - 345 at bud's, 22.22 per mag. Last month they had one of those for ~235 or so. Lots of color choices!

Yep, Tanfoglio makes guns way above their price class...had a Witness .45 in nickel and it had better fit and finish than a cz97 for twice the price. Plus it weighed, like, 15lb and could be used as an effective bludgeon in a pinch. The newer poly Witnesses would make fine, cheap, all-round guns.

Oh, I forgot to mention... The down-side of the VP9, is that the holster options are much more limited than some of the other full size 9mm options out there. But... when I stuck the VP9 into the BladeTech OWB unit I purchased for the M&P9, it fit pretty darn well. Well enough, that I'm totally comfortable using it for any range and class work I do.

Remember all the facts when you purchase. Glock has/will fix their firearms for nothing-zip-zilch-nada. I have Glock that are old as the hills.

They still repair them. What good is a Porsche with a cracked block that no one will/can repair?
All that glitters is not gold...

Vernon1,
Fair sentiment, and good point. I won't (and don't) argue with it. I wasn't trying to say Glock products are anything less than wonderfully reliable, and well-made. I thought I made that clear in my post. I just don't like them. Also, I'm rather certain that after what I've done to my G19, if it breaks, I'll be on the hook for it, and I was/am OK with that when I did it. I put some aftermarket trigger parts in it because I believe the triggers suck, and dremeled the snot out of the frame to try to make it feel better in my hand. I can hit what I want to with it, but I have to work harder at it than with other products. After my dremel work, and aftermarket products, I don't expect Glock to warranty it. (Rumor has it, they'll charge me $100 for a new frame if I send the old one back, which BTW, is a heck of a deal for a MFGR to offer, IMO. - if the rumor is indeed true.)

And, "old as the hills", means 1983, or newer. In the world of firearms, Glock is actually rather new at the table. What they do, they do VERY well, and the do it the GLOCK way. Good for them, (just not good for me) ;) And, that's why the free-market is so great, if you don't like one company's offering, you can select another.

Best wishes, and I'm super happy that you are pleased with your Glock purchase! I hope that I will continue to be as pleased with my HK purchase as you are with your Glock purchase.

But to return it to the topic of the OP, there are many options out there, if one is willing to be patient, and look for a used item on GunBroker or other places. I picked up that Full size 9mm M&P for $288 I think, plus shipping and FFL/Tax stuff. Within the OP'er budget request. As many Glock 19's and 17's as there around, if the OP'er likes the Glock product, I'm sure the OP'er can find one of those as well.

shield 9mm is about 500 grams weight, is it too light " that would jerk the front sight off target "? if I buy it , I will concern concealed carry. how about S &W 915 9mm ?

You're going up the wrong tree, I think. If your complaint is regarding heavy trigger pulls, then traditional double action pistols are the exact opposite of what you should be looking at. Most DA pistols will have trigger pulls ranging from 9-14 pounds. Striker-fired pistols like the Glock, S&W M&P, Sig 320, or Springfield Armory XD will have trigger pulls ranging from 3.5-8 pounds. Single-action pistols like the 1911 will have very light 3-5 pound triggers but also have a manual safety. DA/SA guns will have that heavy trigger you don't want on the first shot and the light single-action pull on subsequent ones.
