1st shotgun!

You'll like it, just be ready for the recoil. I have tactical shotgun ( its not a Mossberg ) chambered for 3" shells also. Kicks like a mule.

There are some good 3" magnum 15 pellet 00 buck loads available, excellent stoppers. Recoil is slightly greater than 2 3/4" but not terribly so.

Given it's a LOT lighter than I imagined, I'm bracing for the recoil but *shrug* with proper stance it should be manageable. I'll most likely start with low load birdshot to start with just to get my bearings, then move up.
Yeah I do believe everyone should have one at least, good defence, good for getting food if needed, plus lol some good clay fun :D the 10 day wait is hitting my impatience lol I want it now!
I kept bouncing back and forth between the Supernova, the 590, and the 870 express. Everything I was reading dropped the 870, then the capacity of the 590 won the day, plus American made.
 
After a two day "tactical" class with my GS500 18.5 with the plastic furnature I did wish I had gotten wood stocks. It was not however as bad as some make out.

....... My thoughts exactly.. But be careful; they can multiply. Got my first 12 ga. pump when I was 18 and still have it plus the other 3 that have joined it since then.
I keep telling myself I'd just get the 9, and a 12 that's it. Aw but who am I kidding, I'm already eyeing a Ithaca and a Browning, as well as thinking maybe I could have fun with a 30-06 or a AR. Oh look my wallet is already crying. But that's down the road a ways lol.
 
Oh I will Also have the piece of mind, and the Springfield XD-9 as the backup. The Federal ammo seems cheap enough. Got a box of 25 for 6 bucks :), ammo isn't a problem. Time tho is lol. I wish I lived out deep rural to shoot whenever I liked to. However this is California sooooo lol.

Just a FYI as I use a factory 590 ... I found federal 3in 15 pellet buck to pattern poorly IN MY GUN but I found Winchester Double X 15 pellet to pattern marvelously. I find the 10 pellet 000 from Federal to pattern amazingly well. If someone was hunting with a modified choke perhaps the federal 15 pellet would pattern better. All #4 patterns great in my gun although I'd only use it on coyotes or dogs personally. Also OP it does kick but if you hold it correctly and practice occasionally it will be no big deal. You will have a bruise if you hold the gun wrong.

While I'm talking ammo I found Winchester Super X 24 pellet #1 buck also patterns well ... about perfect. That's a lot of pellets and it spreads pretty well for me (which is what I want at home) but the pellets are not plated and should do 12-14in in ballistics gel at 10 yards ... maybe that's good for ya.
 
One thing I'll be practicing a lot when I get it , I did pick up this weekend Winchester home defense ammo. Fires a slug+ 3 00 pellets. Looks brutal lol
 
Finally got it :), and what a beaut. Unfortunately haven't been able to get out to the range yet, but have been having way too much fun racking the snap caps in and out :p, and getting a feel for it.. Any recommendations for a sling? I've been looking at the black mossberg padded one, and the stretchy one that holds the gun tighter to you from mossberg. :)
 
Mossberg makes slings? Can you post a link?

I just bought a Blackhawk m1 padded sling ... seems fine but I wish the sling would attach to the top of the buttstock instead of the botton. Depends how you would want to carry it I guess.

Congrats on your new shotgun. Like some (many?) of us, the bug bites hard and fast. Before you know it you'll be looking into reloading, and things like 3 gun and other competition. And I won't even mention the wonderful world of Legos, I mean putting ARs together!

So please enjoy this step as before you know it you'll be deep in this rabbit hole

Well at least it let me appreciate how much bigger a 12 is vs a 20.
 
Sound like a good excuse to get a 20 ga at some point!

Just came back from giving it its maiden firing :) that was fun. First shot jarred my teeth :what:hahahaha didn't hold it tight enough. After that, handled just fine. Except When while loading rounds into the magazine the spring bound up for a bit, but other than that had a blast!!
 
I have a love/hate relationship with my Remington 870. I basically love to hate it. Great gun but I hate how it beats me up as I'm clearly getting old. So glad you had good results as the 590 is similar if I'm not mistaken.
 
Maybe need to get a thicker recoil pad, or rather a better one to help mitigate felt recoil
