You'll like it, just be ready for the recoil. I have tactical shotgun ( its not a Mossberg ) chambered for 3" shells also. Kicks like a mule.
Welcome to THR.

There are some good 3" magnum 15 pellet 00 buck loads available, excellent stoppers. Recoil is slightly greater than 2 3/4" but not terribly so.

Thanks :)
Given it's a LOT lighter than I imagined, I'm bracing for the recoil but *shrug* with proper stance it should be manageable. I'll most likely start with low load birdshot to start with just to get my bearings, then move up.
Yeah I do believe everyone should have one at least, good defence, good for getting food if needed, plus lol some good clay fun :D the 10 day wait is hitting my impatience lol I want it now!
I kept bouncing back and forth between the Supernova, the 590, and the 870 express. Everything I was reading dropped the 870, then the capacity of the 590 won the day, plus American made.

After a two day "tactical" class with my GS500 18.5 with the plastic furnature I did wish I had gotten wood stocks. It was not however as bad as some make out.

....... My thoughts exactly.. But be careful; they can multiply. Got my first 12 ga. pump when I was 18 and still have it plus the other 3 that have joined it since then.
I keep telling myself I'd just get the 9, and a 12 that's it. Aw but who am I kidding, I'm already eyeing a Ithaca and a Browning, as well as thinking maybe I could have fun with a 30-06 or a AR. Oh look my wallet is already crying. But that's down the road a ways lol.

Oh I will Also have the piece of mind, and the Springfield XD-9 as the backup. The Federal ammo seems cheap enough. Got a box of 25 for 6 bucks :), ammo isn't a problem. Time tho is lol. I wish I lived out deep rural to shoot whenever I liked to. However this is California sooooo lol.

Just a FYI as I use a factory 590 ... I found federal 3in 15 pellet buck to pattern poorly IN MY GUN but I found Winchester Double X 15 pellet to pattern marvelously. I find the 10 pellet 000 from Federal to pattern amazingly well. If someone was hunting with a modified choke perhaps the federal 15 pellet would pattern better. All #4 patterns great in my gun although I'd only use it on coyotes or dogs personally. (Not saying you are a newbie but you could read this short article if you are interested :) http://blog.suarezinternational.com/2017/08/the-4-steps-of-managing-shotgun-recoil.html )

Also OP it does kick but if you hold it correctly and practice occasionally it will be no big deal. You will have a bruise if you hold the gun wrong.

While I'm talking ammo I found Winchester Super X 24 pellet #1 buck also patterns well ... about perfect. That's a lot of pellets and it spreads pretty well for me (which is what I want at home) but the pellets are not plated and should do 12-14in in ballistics gel at 10 yards ... maybe that's good for ya.

One thing I'll be practicing a lot when I get it , I did pick up this weekend Winchester home defense ammo. Fires a slug+ 3 00 pellets. Looks brutal lol

Finally got it :), and what a beaut. Unfortunately haven't been able to get out to the range yet, but have been having way too much fun racking the snap caps in and out :p, and getting a feel for it.. Any recommendations for a sling? I've been looking at the black mossberg padded one, and the stretchy one that holds the gun tighter to you from mossberg. :)

Mossberg makes slings? Can you post a link?

I just bought a Blackhawk m1 padded sling ... seems fine but I wish the sling would attach to the top of the buttstock instead of the botton. Depends how you would want to carry it I guess.

Congrats on your new shotgun. Like some (many?) of us, the bug bites hard and fast. Before you know it you'll be looking into reloading, and things like 3 gun and other competition. And I won't even mention the wonderful world of Legos, I mean putting ARs together!

So please enjoy this step as before you know it you'll be deep in this rabbit hole

Right now I have a ammo bug bite hahaha tho I wasn't paying attention and accidentally bought a 100 box of 20 ga :what:
Well at least it let me appreciate how much bigger a 12 is vs a 20.

Sound like a good excuse to get a 20 ga at some point!
Hahahahahahahaha I keep hearing that
Just came back from giving it its maiden firing :) that was fun. First shot jarred my teeth :what:hahahaha didn't hold it tight enough. After that, handled just fine. Except When while loading rounds into the magazine the spring bound up for a bit, but other than that had a blast!!

I have a love/hate relationship with my Remington 870. I basically love to hate it. Great gun but I hate how it beats me up as I'm clearly getting old. So glad you had good results as the 590 is similar if I'm not mistaken.

Maybe need to get a thicker recoil pad, or rather a better one to help mitigate felt recoil
