First they were almost giving them away at around $200, with The Rebates, then they waited a month and released a new Gen2 version, for doublle the price. Do we really look that stupid that they figured no one would notice? The new one is "from first reports not an improvement over the original. At $439.00 at Brownells, they can keep them. No way this is equal to the standard M&P standard or 4" gun or the new Compact, yet they are asking pretty much the same price, and in this enviornment, when you gan get a Gen 4 Glock 19 for under 500, I don't think it will fly. Seems like a big mistake in more ways than one, thoughts?

My main dislike of the shield is the trigger, and even that's not a huge deal. That's the main thing they needed to fix in the 2.0. if they use the same trigger and the same updated stippling as the one that's in the other new M&P 2.0, it will be a compelling option for many.

The main reason I never carry mine is that it's kind of a "tweener". It's too big for pocket carry, and for the weight you might as well get a double stack compact.

Looks like the features on the 45 shield were added to the 9mm.
Which ones? I'm not familiar with the 45 shield.

I just looked at the specs. Didn't know they were out. Better trigger (cool), better stippling, and 2 ounces lighter.

Same everything else?

Did you really think the rebates would last forever?

Seems fine to me, $440 is about what I paid for mine.

What is the competition? PPS and G43. "No way this is equal to the standard M&P" LOL. Of course not. It's a different model!

Same here I tried it when it first came out, 6 or so years ago, and never carried it because the XDS was actually emaller in the pocket, and a 45 is still a 45. The 9 would work but it wegs as much as my 26,and with the +2 in all my mags, it is still4 rounds short, plus the ability to pop in a 17 round mag as a spare. I just don't see the value being equal to a Glock 26, or even a 038 which have come down to mid 4's on slickguns. There are just too many better guns around that price, and as mentioned it's too large to pocket carry comfortably IMO.

The value of the Shield and similar guns is their more proportional dimensions compared to a subcompact double-stack pistol. A Glock 26 is the same width as a Glock 17.

Considering the fact that it is made in USA and looking at the competition the $439 is very reasonable. As I said previously single stack guns of this size make zero sense to me I will just keep my subcompact double stack Glock.

I'm not seeing even one "mistake". What am I missing? Smith & Wesson is in the business of making as much profit as they can and selling as many firearms as they can. If it's a mistake to make money then they are making "...a big mistake in many more ways than one." That's my thought for what it's worth.

Yeah, putting aside my personal preferences, the shield is a solid gun. The 2.0 is just an attempt to make a good design a little better.

If you don't like the price or gun then don't buy it. That simple.

S&W wasn't trying to pull a fast one either. The rebates were part slump trump and to help clear out inventories across the nation to make room for the 2.0. Pretty standard affair for most widgets. Ever notice ford/chevy/Kia/Lexus etc. year end closeouts? Same principle.

The 2.0 is new so prices will be higher for a bit. After the novelty wears off they will sell for $350.

If any single stack is overpriced it is the g43. $500 is a total ripoff.

I'm interested in one given the lower weight and better trigger. I've got the new compact m&p and I'm only so-so on the new texture. It is a bit on the rough side, though it's growing on me. Or perhaps I'm slowly losing all feeling in my hand from it. Either way works I reckon.

Prolly the latter : (

I suppose that glock gen 2 and 3 were double big mistake too since those were release at higher prices.

What's going on with the Shield's weight?

When the Shield was introduced, it was widely reported (i.e. by Guns & Ammo, Handguns mag, and T.T.A.G.) as weighing 19 ounces.

Now, S&W claims the original Shield has quietly put on weight to 21.1 ounces.

But wait! The 2.0 Shield is touted as shedding weight to 18.3 ounces.
Just weighed mine. 18.5 oz empty. Empty 7 round mag weighs 2.5 oz. So no weight savings unless the claimed weight of the 2.0 includes the mag on their 18oz claim

I like my 9mm Shield just fine...

It's reliable, shoots good and all at a good price... I don't have a want/need for a 2.0...

DM
Same here. I'm fine with my 1.0 Shield. The trigger is decent and I don't want a rougher textured grip. I already have an XDS 45 with a too rough grip. Also my Shield was $245 after transfer which is $200 less than the new Shield at Brownells. I'll pass.

What a silly thread

Yeah, here's a thought: The Glock 19 is nearly a full sized gun, not at all in the same class as the Shield. Why compare them?

Because the G19 is in many ways the standard to which many pistols are compared. Also, when you choose a single stack, you are trading round count for concealability, ease of carry, and (for me) comfort. The question becomes how good of a trade am I making against the standard?

To not understand that simple idea is "silly"

When choosing something like the Shield over G26 you're trading 2oz and 1/8" less thickness for magazine capacity. It makes zero sense to me. I would wait to examine Shield 2.0 gun in hand before rendering any judgement. It is obvious that most early reviews from U-tube experts, so called can't be trusted.
