I’m looking for suggestions for grips for a Browning Hi-Power. 1972 model. Gloss blue gun. Prefer slimmer grips than the stock walnut. Under $100. Colors preferred would be shades of brown, possibly faux ivory.

Pictures greatly appreciated so I can see exactly how they match the gun.

The day after I received the gun, yesterday, I shipped it to Novak to get the slide milled and sights installed - I’d like to have grips by the time it gets home in about 2 weeks.

They won't win any prize for beauty, but Hogue rubber grips are the best Hi-Power grips I've ever tried. I'm not usually a Hogue fan but these are great.

I would check out Esmeralda to see what she has in stock in the way of Hi-Power grips. You also might want to see if Craig Spegel has any available.

View attachment 767295 I have the altamonts. It had some real ugly pachmayr grips on it when I got it.

That’s exactly the info for which I’m looking. That’s a nice color - I’m trying to find the best match on the first try and that’s very close. How do they fit the hand compared to the stock grips? I find the stock grips feeling too round/wide.

^ They're very comfortable for me. I have larger hands and still don't care for the stock grips. You won't be disappointed in these. My only complaint is they do have a tiny amount of wiggle. Tightening the screw solves it but I just leave it on the looser end as to not split the wood. Overall, very comfortable grips.

Navidrex makes grips which are thinner than the factory ones and Eagle Grips make some faux ivory grips as well.

I like Altamont grips, much slimmer than the original wood grips. Mine measure just a bit over 1 1/4" thick.
As Mn Fats said, there is a bit wiggle but after shooting mine a lot and re-tightening the screws they are solid.

Yeah I know they're "cosmetically challenged" but those Pachmayrs (the full set no less), are fairly thin and feel great on my Hi-Power! They also sort of fit right in with the matte industrial strength finish on the gun.

^ I can see how they fit with the matte finish. I just....really hated them. Wood on matte doesn't exactly look correct either but I'm a fan of the wood/blued type look. Plus they just feel a heck of a lot better to me.

Navidrex Micarta slims grips available at Brownells. They also make wood grips which are similar but have a slight palm swell. These are the thinnest grips available.

Then there are Spegels if you can get them. They are just a hare thicker than the Naviderix.

Houge wood are nice but a bit thicker.

You need to bed or fit the grips. You can use caulk to mark them and see where they are contacting the frame. You can then sand or use and exacto knife to fit the grips to your gun. This will take the wiggle out. BHP frames are inconsistent.

I thought the same thing but when I checked Esmeralda's site I didn't find any Hi-Power grips currently available. It appears she's mainly making grips for 1911s these days.

I'm a big fan of the Hogue wood grips. Mine look like the ones in post 13, they are beautiful. My favorites though are aluminum ones from Aluma Grip. I won't show those though as they are no longer available.

IMO, Altamont is one of the best bangs for your buck if they make grips for your gun. I wish they made them for my CZ-75, I loved the ones I had for my PT-92.

You mentioned faux ivory, not sure if you saw but they do do bonded ivory.

I'm leaning toward this model, maybe this color. I can't seem to find a good pic with them installed on a blue gun. That's really my conundrum, matching the gun to the grips the first try.

Having a matte finish would be a no brainer for me - I'd get the Navidrex black grips for <$50...
