Wow what a fun time. My daughter shoot a handgun for the first time on her birthday last month. Sense then she's shot a 9MM Glock about 200 rounds and a Rim Fire Open Pistol 50 rounds before her first match (she loves this pistol by the way). So her first match she shoots a score that gets her into a C class. So much fun shooting with her and seeing the smile on her face after shooting this Open gun. She had never shoot a gun before this.

And yes I had a blast as well shoot a score that got me into the C class as well. I have shoot a little with handguns but mostly Sporting Clay stuff with a shotgun. I have to say when she first shot the Glock at a local range she clean my clock on some steel targets so bad that I want to crawl in a hole. HAHA

I am picking her own Open gun up in a week, well its mine until she turns 21 shes 16 now.

I have never been in a sport that people are so willing too help others. This sport / hobby is the best.

Well just wanted to let everyone know how much fun we had

Bill

WOW congrats, that is very good I just got out of C class in steel challenge and have been at it (steel) for almost 2 years, steel challenge just this year. You both did well and I hope you continue as steel challenge is a great place for families and a low cost way to compete. Have you shoot all 8 steel challenge stages?

We are in this for the long hall. Next match is in a couple weeks. We joined the club so we have access to the range to practice. Yes we shoot all 8 stages, she didn't like the stage that she had to move on :) One of the stages she did really well on ran a couple times clean runs in the 3.4 second range. The really fast guys are 2.14 on this stage I don't remember what stage it is though. Im very lucky to have found one of the top shooters at the range that likes Katie and is willing to work with her. I will pay attention and hope to learn some stuff as well. Ive done a lot of hobbies and this is some of the most fun I have had, and it makes it even better that she is doing it as well.

I hope you and your daughter have a great time.
My thanks to you for carrying on the shooting tradition, this is how we keep our 2nd amendment rights by having future voters on our side.
Hope she likes her new gun and said "Thanks Dad"

^^^That be Outer Limits. No one likes that one. The key is to practice moving from the end box to the center (without the gun at first) and then learn to keep from shooting over the top of the two rectangle targets that are at 35 yards.

^^^This is Smoke and Hope

May I ask what open gun your getting? I assume rimfire?

On Brian Enos forum there are discussions on each SC stage with a lot of information on how to shoot each of them. I'm lucky the granddaddy SC match of them all (East Coast SC Championship) is right here local. Entire families travel 1000s of miles to shoot this match. My limited experience of just 1 year in SC confirms your observation that those who shoot this COF and participate even at a high level are quite friendly and willing to help out newcomers.

I shot in a local ICORE (revo) match last night and placed 1st right behind a Master class shooter. Granted it was a small local match but the best showing I've made with handguns. Last week I shot in a larger ICORE match and finished in the 6th position overall. These two matches have me excited for next year. It has been a long slow climb and I have a few last place finishes to my credit and of course I'm still not any kind of shooter of note but for me it's exciting and really has boosted my confidence.

I am also a SCSA fan (Steel Challenge Shooting Association), and have really gotten into it this year.

The people are great, and the matches are a blast.

Keep the tradition going Dad, and good on ya for getting your daughter interested.

Well update three months in and Katie shot a B qualifier time really close to an A I think.

Wish I was there to watch her but I was with my other daughter in Vegas for Gymnastics.

Going out tomorrow to do some practicing should be fun.

Well just wanted to share I’m one proud dad.

Good work dad.... It's amazing how quickly the young ones learn and origress, no?

Only think missing in this tgread, a few action photos from the match. Have fun.

She doesn’t like me taking pictures.

She has started a Facebook and Instagram page so I said you do know you’re going to have to let me take pictures and she said yea haha.

She’s taking pictures of her gun and the plake she won for juniors.

Next month she gets one for juniors and one for women’s so look for pictures in the next couple weeks.

Her goal is to win the California State championships. Might be a lot but always good to shoot for the top.

She’s never been this focused to win at anything, softball could care less archery the same thing the only thing close to this was wrestling yes wrestling on the boys team no less. Haha

Good to hear Bill. I'm shooting in a steel challenge match tomorrow. Snow on the ground even!

In snow now that’s dedication haha.

Not sure I could get Katie out in the snow.

Have fun

It actually turned out to be a nice day, in the mid 50s! I shot iron sight revolver. I haven't shot iron sights in over two years but I want to shoot both optical sight and iron sight revo this year. So I thought I would make my first iron sight outing at a place where no one really knows me LOL!

Anyhow, while I think there is much room for improvement and my feeling was that I could have done worse I got my first division win! Great way to start the year and since I like to make up goals to work towards this is a great help.

So Katie started down this venture shooting her first match November of 2017. She shoot her first sub 100 time this weeekend at a 98.63.

She was worried because she hadn’t shoot for six weeks becuase of the rain and her sisters Gymnastics competitions that we have been going to.

I just purchased our tickets to go to Alabama for the Worlds she’s really excited and ready for some real practice in the next couple months.

Her gole is To have fun in June and to win juniors in 2019.

I will try to get some pictures posted maybe a few videos. She hates me taking pictures.

She will be shooting rimfire Open Pistol and Rim Fire Open rifle

She’s got a wonderful couch Mike Setting that has been helping her out at the range. Love this sport so many people willing to help the kids and adults out.

Well Bill glad to hear you are still at it, you and you're daughter. Keep us updated.

This past weekend I was set to shoot two matches, on Saturday a steel challenge match with all 8 SCSA stages and a local outlaw match on Sunday. I was off work Friday and had to help my son move, which became a mini-disaster. I didn't get home until 2:30 AM so I pulled out of the SCSA match. Sunday I shot the outlaw 5 stager, it was cold, windy and raining. Did ok in my main class and shot open 22 pistol also, the first time I have shot open 22 at steel or any other competition and I'm happy with the result.

I have an open rimfire rifle that I have never used, loaned it to my brother for him to try out. Looking forward to a summer of steel shooting!

You’re going to love the rifle. Katie shot a rifle this last weekend she really liked it a lot.

Now she wants a PCC rifle haha.
