Nice! I don't have a 4" 66, but I do have these:

From left to right: 66-1 w/ 2.5" barrel, 66-5 transition w/3" barrel, and 66-2 w/2.5" barrel. The -1 is an old and trusted companion....we've been together for quite awhile.

Very nice "Combo" you have there! I've never been able to discover a 66 with a 3" barrel!

My thoughts exactly ... K-frames forever!

Your M19 is beautiful!
I'm a fan of the Model 19....Currently I own a pre-Model 19 4" that was shipped in the first batch of these in the first year of production that had left S&W! My other is a blue M19-3 and my last one is a nickel 19-4 with a 2.5" barrel.

Nice gun you've got there Cooldill. Hard to beat a K-frame 357.

I've got a 66-1 that is a Virginia State Police 50th Anniversary Model. And like BigBore44's above, it has (I believe) never been fired outside the factory. Beautiful gun, with the wood presentation case.

It will probably never be fired as long as I own it. I've got other guns, including a Model 19 to shoot.

I do love those smooth presentation grips though. Man, they are nice. :)

So is that basketweave holster you got there.. :)

Beautiful 66-1 commemorative you have there! I used to have 3 Model 66's....two were 66(no dash#) and one also was a 66(no dash#)except that it was produced a little later whenever S&W started installing the black sights...but I sold one of the 66(no dash#)with the stainless sights to another collector.

Looks like a clean older 66. Beginning in early '74, I carried a similar one full time for several years. I liked the 66 so much, I wore it out and had to have S&W totally overhaul it around 1980. When the L-Frames came out I started carrying and shooting one of those, so never shot my 66 enough to wear it out again. Fine little revolvers.

Very nice 66...and I love the grips wood graining!

What a bunch of sweet looking revolvers.

With a steel K-frame you can shoot the old school .357mag 158SJHP (or 125gr SJHP) and still get terrific terminal performance. No premium hollow points needed whan you got full .357mag horsepower.

Nice find! I really like model 66's.

I have two 66 no dash. One that I carry and shoot and one NIB. I bought them in '77 as a duty weapon and a "keeper".

The gun and leather in your pic look almost exactly like what I have. Hope you enjoy yours as much as I have mine!

Gang this one shoot like a dang DREAM. Super fun to do speedloader reload drills out in the desert, and bust old soda tins with magnums. How they fly!! Such an enjoyable wheelgun and well worth the price of admission. Guys these pre-lock S&Ws are the best kept secret in handguns!!

Um ... I only wish that the pre-lock S&Ws were the best-kept secret in handguns. The secret's been out in my area for the past several years. They're certainly commanding a premium everywhere I look these days, otherwise I'd have bought a bunch more.

Hmm. Saw a nice -- almost mint -- 4" Model 13-2 in nickel (with original box) at a local shop in the last couple'o'days ... $799!

True but if you've priced the Colts lately... *shudder*

Model 10s and 64s can still be had in excellent shape, pre-lock, for well under $500 if you know where to hunt for them. The 66s and 686s, and the N-frames, seems to command more but deals are still to be had.

1976 Sa-So catalog....

Sigh.

That 66 was a hot item back in the day. They were hard to find. So where Model 60’s. That’s a great gun.

Good little stoppers to be sure. I don't know about you but I feel as if they'd still be good for defense even today.
