Mouse Guns : YOUR Definition, CCW, etc. ?

To me a mouse gun is very easily concealable, one that basically is small enough to fit in the palm of your hand. Something like a NAA Guardian, Seecamp or the likes. For me it would be a backup, but for some it could be the primary as I know of a couple who use them as a primary.

I had one of these NAA .32's I carried for quite a while. Wish I still had it. Made a great backup gun.

Mouse gun...any gun that can fit in the pocket of a suit vest, dress shirt, or that can be carried concealed or near that, in the palm of the hand. The Seecamp, the Baby Browning, etc. Folks used to call them vest pocket guns.

Here's a link to a fella who collects them...

Yes, these are examples of the smaller Mouse Guns. Many types are still made in this size.
Vests are not as popular as they once were, and today there is more demand for larger calibers and more power.
An example of the larger Mouse Guns is the Remington RM380 with both of the above (re: caliber & power), yet small enough to conceal.

A Kahr p380 with a crimson trace laserguard in a mitch Rosen pocket holster. The hook on the holster leaves it in your pocket and you come out with a laser activated by your middle finger. A baby Browning and a 458 Socom round for comparison. The Kahr is much more pleasant to shoot both have lothar polygonal barrels. The baby Browning is a Snappy little wench but will fit inside a box of Marlboros. Anybody got a light?

Added a new mouser to my accumulation a couple of days ago, a nice little Beretta 21A in .22LR. It was not purchased as a carry gun, but may well do trail and BU duty once it's proven reliable.

Med Wheeler,

Keep the chamber and lead CLEAN and be aware that magazine release button on the grip seems to look for things to press itself against and holster it accordingly. Both of mine were both most reliable with solid 40 grain high velocity such as CCI mini Mags or the old SuperX and I load the magazines one or even two low (one of the mags was very stiff) and load the chamber from the open barrel position.

Shoot it enough to know what it does and then clean the bejebbers out of it.

To add to what kBob wrote, learn how many magazines worth of ammo can make it through before jamming. That is your notice the gun needs the chamber cleaned. In my old Bobcat, with round nose CCI Mini Mags, it would run up to 3 or maybe 4 magazines worth before it would have an extraction jam. Since the gun has no extractor, that chamber has to be smooth and clean.

IMG_0999.JPG IMG_1001.JPG IMG_1002.JPG I bought a new mouse gun it’s a little 44magnum hand gun.I like it cause I can keep it loaded in my van unlike a rifle or shotgun.2’nd pic 44mag/454 and 460 the 44 is a mouse gun right?

I carry a mousegun everyday, as BUG to a primary .45 ACP. A KelTec P32 filled with Geco ball. Sometimes it serves as primary and only, depending on dress. First rule and all. I once, many years ago, carried a Taurus PT-22, which was the smallest caliber mousegun I've carried. It was loaded with Yellow Jackets.

Two of my favorites from my own mouser group. I've also carried each by itself from time to time.

I did just get a Beretta 21A (Bobcat) in .22LR last week, but haven't fired it. I'd like a Jetfire..

Ditto to all you said, except I didn't get a Bobcat.
Please let us know if you get the Jetfire.

I really like the 1911 (have a couple), but find it difficult to carry all day.
The KelTec P32 is my main BUG. I use FMJ for greater penetration and to avoid rim lock. Also, the optional clip, eliminating need of IWB holster.
I have, on occasion, carried the Taurus PT-22 (LR HP). The tip-up barrel is convenient too.
My primary is S&W 638 (.38 Special semi-jacketed HP), which is a powerful mousegun unto itself.

I have mentioned a buddy that carried a Beretta 950 in .22 short Every day and everywhere.....whether he was supposed to or not. He had an in enlarged spleen from cancer and feared being hit more than being arrested, his choice in my opinion.

The biggest issue he had with the 950 was when other gun folks would find out in conversation that he had it and ridicule him for going so small and powerless.

He liked carrying his Charter .44 Bull dog or Colt Officers ACP in .45 better and loved having his Model 27 five inch in a shoulder holster........but when he could not, and usually even if he did, he had that 950 and no one he did not tell was ever the wiser.

He looked at an NAA .22 Magnum I had just before he died, but proved that if we both shot one handed from the low ready that he could get his first shot off as fast as me AND (one handed mind you) empty his magazine in the time it took me to shoot again and at 3 meters score all head shots with most in the "sniper's T". Sort of hard to argue with once you get around the single action and all.

I would have preferred the .25 ACP for the primer reliability and lessened danger of rim lock....but he shot it a lot ( and cleaned it a lot)and .22short was still in some stores then for a lot cheaper than .25ACP ever has been.

I carried and have carried so call mouse guns for a long time, for quite awhile it was a NAA 22lr then a Kel tec p32 for many years and just recently I got a stainless slide LCP cause the price was so good. I carry all but the LCP as a back up while working. The NAA was kinda carried as a primary long time ago when i was undercover and didn't want to be found to be carrying of course there were a number of officers very close by so I don't believe I would ever of had to use it but i didn't want to be there without anything. Now days i'm retired and the LCP is carry as a primary when I'm out in the yard or walking the dog mostly but sometimes i put in in my pocket to run to the store if I don't want to put a holster on for a bigger weapon.

A "mouse gun" is a .22 with frangible rounds. Any thing else that someone refers to as a "mouse gun" is incorrect.
A .32 is a chest pocket/coat pocket/pocket/aiming pistol. It is not a mouse gun, any one who shoots a mouse with a .32 is kind of dumb.

I have a friend who shot a rat with a .357. The shot went through the rat, through the floor, and through a water pipe.

. . . by itself, the rat would have done less damage.

Yeah, that is way overkill ...but a great way to learn a lesson first hand! Over-penetration in an urban environment is a severe issue. Precisely why you don't use an Automatic or Semi-automatic shotgun loaded with #00 and slug rounds for home defense, you wouldn't have a home left to live in! :)

1: What is YOUR definition of a Mouse Gun ?
2: Would (do) you use one for primary carry ? Which one ?
3: Same as above, for backup ? Which ?
4: Specify largest and smallest Mouse Gun you would "consider" carrying ?

Thanks for all objective replies .:)

1. Mouse gun = less than 9mm +P caliber

2. If I HAD to, but, yes. The largest one I could carry, I'm assuming there's some restriction here or I would just use my normal primary (.40 S&W or 9mm +P).

3. If I HAD to, but, yes, same as above

4. .32 ACP Keltec (13 rds with mag extension :) )

I love mouse guns. I currently own 4 NAA minis, 3 Sidewinders and a Black Widow, all in 22 mag. I have a Taurus PT25 and a Keltec P32 as well as 3 Beretta pocket guns a 21a, a Tomcat and a Pico. All have been carried except the 21a and the PT25. I have a Remington RM380 but it really is just a little large to be considered a mouse gun.
