I'm curious how many of you that have carry permits carry everywhere you can legally vs folks that choose to leave the gun at home sometimes.

Because of my job I don't carry too often(I work in a strict, no firearms or other weapons, environment). Oddly enough, I find that I carry more often in the town I live in than I do in the town I work in. That is a large distinction for me because I live about 900 miles from where I work. I only get home on winter and summer break.

I think the reason that I don't carry in the town I work in is partly because my work consumes so much of my time here. I am expected to be at work from 7am to 5pm. Yes, some people start drifting away after 4:30pm; but it still makes for long days. Weekends here are not filled with activity.

If I go anywhere other than work I am likely to be carrying; it is just that I go so few places other than work. There is the point that crime still hovers around a inexplicable low. I find in interesting how the reality of extremely low crime rates seems to strike a near inverse level of concern.

Just a little snip from something I wrote somewhere else about a year ago:
It is also important to remember that in the late 90's and early 2000's crime dropped to a, nearly, unexplainable low. There are many different theories for why this happened. The plethora of theories is due to the reality that no matter what, if any, innovative crime-fighting method was employed, crime fell. As such, nearly all mayors and police chiefs were able to claim that their method was the, pardon the pun, magic-bullet.

However, regression to the mean always wins. Crime rates will "rebound." There is nothing that will stop this. They are unlikely to return to the late 80's levels; but some increase is to be expected.
I suspect that most of us want to avoid being part of the, "rebound."

After this long bit of rambling and introspection, yes, most of the time that it is legal, I carry. On the other end of the extreme is my Wife, she also has a permit and never carries. At home, when I am not there, my gun safe stays locked. She has never opened it. My daughter sometimes opens it if she is going to go shooting with friends; but that is pretty seldom. The time she stopped at the state funded public range, to ask about the rules and times, the local police did a good job of turning her off from sport shooting.

The only time I leave the house unarmed is when I'm knowingly going somewhere where I can't even disarm and leave a carry piece in my vehicle while on the property. Those instances are extremely rare.

So yes, 99 percent of the time I'm carrying.

I'll be the odd one out and say no I don't. When I walk or bike ride around my little subdivision, I wear gym shorts, no real place - or need - for carrying. I leave one in my car, so if I am going to the Walmart, I put it in my pocket; but to the USPS, it stays in the car- obviously. On trips, even fun "Sunday drives, it's with me. A lot depends on where you live and travel to. Not every place in this country is the equal of the South side of Chicago or Camden NJ

Since firearms are prohibited at work I normally leave the house without. If I don't go directly home after work and have business elsewhere I bring my EDC and elect to secure it in the car. My method is a pair of handcuffs secured to/under the drivers seat. My vehicle does not have a trunk (Subaru Baja) and there is no room under the seat for the Bulldog safe we have.

I cannot carry at work so no I do not. At home it depends on what I'm doing and/or where I'm travelling to. If I'm going into the city yes :) Travelling distances on the highway I generally have a side arm on me. Around the yard doing home stuff hardly ever.

I pretty much do. At home I keep my little NAA .22 in my pocket, when I'm out it's a j-frame. I can't carry at work, but I keep that j-frame locked up in the truck when I'm in the office because I still often have to stop on the way home for milk or diapers. My truck is kept in a locked and guarded garage during the day so I'm not terribly worried about it getting broken into, and my safe getting ripped out and gun getting stolen.

Even at work, I keep a little can of pepper spray in my pocket since I work in downtown Cinci in an area where there still are occasional shootings. I keep that pepper spray on me too when I go to dinner and have some beer, since carrying is not allowed when consuming alcohol.
