Well, as I contemplate how to spend this months "gun budget" there is something that I saw about a year ago and files away in my mind as a neat gadget. However, now that I am mostly shooting alone it is working its way back up to the realm of things to consider.

I have been looking at the MantisX. It is a gyroscopic shot analyzer. I particularly like that it has a co2 setting, that would allow it to work with my basement practice.

I know some people here have one; but there are no threads, that I could find, discussing it. Has it been useful or a total dud?

I'm an engineer for Mantis. I won't bother you with my biases about how great a product it is, but if you have any specific questions about it, I'll do my best to answer.

Thanks, I was hoping that others here already had one. That doesn't seem to be the case; so I will go ahead and be first. I also plan to get a universal magazine floor plate adapter. I will use those with my Kimber micro 380. The PK380 already has a rail.

My AR has a rail on top of the gas-block, intended for a front sight. Is that going to get too hot for the Gyro block?

Good have you on the board!:) Question: are any 'top level' shooters using this thing? Would be VERY curious to see what kind of feedback Jerry Miculek or Rob Leatham caliber shooter would be getting from it. They shoot SO fast...I can't believe that the device wouldn't be chastising them for doing something wrong...even though they HIT. Absolutely looks like something that would be of benefit to a beginning or intermediate shooter.

I picked up the MantisX a few weeks ago after a friend showed his to me.
I like it, and think it's a valuable training tool
There are some features I would like to see, such as the ability to store profiles for different shooters, but overall pretty cool for the money.

It should be fine, but if you have any problems with it, we are happy to replace it.

The device does have its limits. It struggles to keep up if you are doing faster than .2s splits. The device works by looking for when a shot occurs and then looking at the movement pattern just prior to the shot (specifically the 150ms before the trigger breaks). The way to 'win' with the mantis is to have little to no movement in that last 150ms before the trigger breaks. So if you are shooting faster than .2s splits, then the device is going to see a lot of movement from the recoil of the previous shot. This is a problem we are working on, but it may be in a future version of the product.

We did add user accounts recently. So you can sign in, and sync your data to the cloud. When you sign out, it clears all the data from the phone, and when you sign back in again, you can sync all your data back down to the phone. Is there something more specific you would like to see?

Thanks for the quick response.
What I was referring to was something more along the lines of establishing two or more user profiles within the software, so one could click a button that indicates "person X is shooting/practicing now" or "person Y is shooting/practicing now", so you could store separate data for each profile. When I pick "person X", I only see the shots and data for that profile. I tend not to store anything on the cloud, but I think I can see how that might accomplish something similar. It would be cool if that wasn't a requirement, though (where the profiles could be stored locally on the device). The profiles could require a login or not; that part isn't a big deal to me. It would either be my wife or myself using the device, so I wouldn't be too worried about the 'privacy' of my data.
Does that make sense?

Gotcha. We've talked adding something like that, but it's just not on the immediate timeline. The current work around is to "select a firearm" and add a new firearm called "Red October 9mm" then when you hand it over to your wife have her select "Blue November .45". When you jump into the history tab, there is a filter button in the top right corner that should allow you to filter on only the sessions from a certain gun.
