Catching up on shot show videos I saw a silencer company show off a 300bo bolt gun (TFB TV vid) that was integrally suppresed, neat and all, no problems there buy em all, but why? The reason I am puzzled is there isn't a .308-.311 cartridge I couldn't shoot subsonic as a reloader, but trying to think like a normal consumer I thought I can buy sub 300bo easily! Well I haven't come across it except online so availability is the same route as would be buying anything else. But I then I thought tactically, if my bolt gun was the same ammo as my carbine win win right? We come full circle, the restrictions on case capacity for the ability to shoot subsonic is a severe limitation for a cartridge that can run in a semi, I'd like to know what THR's people think.

Personally I like it in a pistol but don't see much use for it in a bolt action rifle. Daniel Defense makes a nifty ISR carbine but I would go for the Sig 'Rattler' with a 6 3/4 length barrel that SOCOM is looking at. Having a suppressed firearm for me is not worth giving up any rights to BATF to get a class II. It they ever get off the NFA list then that's another matter and I have several firearms that could be easily suppressed.

IMHO you're giving up too much ballistically, I'm re-uppering in 6.5G.

Sharp dog, right right if your running a ar-15 variant the grendal is nice, there's alot of retrofitting that's done on these platform to run these rounds that alot of times don't run right, it is better when a reputable company sells it out of the box, still though the question remains in my mind, why other than F it which is a perfectly reasonable answer haha

I THINK there's a point in there somewhere, but I'm really struggling to find it.

IF, and I'm grasping, you're asking what the point of a 300blk bolt gun would be...

The 300blk is a reasonable choice for a short range hunting rifle, especially suppressed. In some states, the AR isn't welcome, so they're stuck with bolt guns. The Howa Mini action has done incredibly well, providing access to a lighter, shorter stroking bolt action rifle in light recoiling cartridges which are very efficient in shorter length, lighter barrels. Very, very handy rifles. In a firearms market where everyone seems to think they need a #5 profile 26" barrel 6.5mm Creedmoor, sunk into a 4lb chassis and a 20x+ optic, a lot of hunters are realizing a 16-20" Mini action in a 2.3" cartridge are pretty dang handy in the field.

I love those Japanese Howas, I really love a CZ in 7.62x39, So a shorter action is definitely a good benefit thanks Varmint.

Also the Ruger American ranch in 7.62x39 is another example of a great working rifle, I own one in 223 that has been wonderful, my wonder with the integrally suppresed 330bo was it's heavier and if you had to pay the extras why not have it in a cartridge with a larger capacity so you can expand your capabilities,

I have a Ruger American in 300 B-O, $368 OTD I paid. 300 B-O is more pricey than 5.56. Subs can be had at Academy. Hornady has developed a subsonic round that expands I am waiting for (SUB-X)

Because standard .30cal rifle cartridges are made to run supersonic and don't have the twist rate for heavy subsonics over 200grs. The .300BO does well at BOTH subsonic and supersonic velocities. With supers, it's much more pleasant to shoot than anything .308 or bigger, with less recoil and muzzle blast. With subs, it covers 100yds quite well without making your ears bleed or disturbing the neighbors.

IMHO, this is like asking, "why buy a .308 when you could have a .300 Remington Ultra Mag?"

I'd like to have one. 300 blackout is a neat cartridge. 100% as powerful as factory 7.62x39 ammo with supers, brass is free, and very economical on powder. The biggest advantage I see is some people just prefer bolt actions and it doesn't throw your brass in the weeds like an AR15.

I hunt in land that doesn't offer much in the way of 200+ yard shots, so a lightweight rifle in a chambering suited to those hunting ranges makes a fair bit of sense. A 125gr at 2300fps making a 30-cal or bigger hole is as much as I need for anything that I'm hunting locally with a rifle, and doesn't beat me up or anyone else in the family in the process. It also happens to be a great tool for shooting at the range, either for me or for my kids/wife.

Does 300BLK still need fast burning powder in bolt gun if you reload, supersonic? I ask since slow rifle powders like 4604, 4895 may not build up pressure enough to burn clean with low charge and large bore.

Powders in the range of H110, 2400, 1680 are appropriate. 4064 and 4895 are way off in terms of burn rate, the case volume is too small and expansion ratio is too big for that slow of a powder. I got best results from H110, 2400 fps with 125's from my 16" barrel.

any chance you could tell me the charge on that? Just curious, Im getting that with 110, and don't want to go up from there, but am curious how far others have taken it, especially since its not in any of the load books I have.
