Kahr??

Mine have been flawless since new......

We have, counting BP and long guns, 155. Out of all, only a Diamondback DB9 has ever had to go back to the factory repairs. Most of what I work on for others typically only requires a good cleaning. Everything we have works and works properly......same for any used firearms we purchased.....no problems!

Beautiful set of guns there Fleetman. And yes, Khar makes a might fine firearm. Love my CW380 and over the years have never paid much attention to info from the internet with problems of guns with high quality and tight tolerances. All mine have shot fine.

I’ve had a PM45 for years and love it. It fits in most of my front pockets and has great accuracy and reliability.

Bought a PM9 a number of years ago direct from Kahr on their RSO discount program. I have had no trouble with that gun whether shooting factory or handloads regardless of grain wt.. I did slightly modify the shape of the mag followers ( five minutes with a dowel and 400 grit sandpaper) which allows me to drop the slide very slowly which for some reason I felt was important. Some people complain that the mag does not fit snug to the frame and I believe Kahr did this intentionally to allow the user to grab the mag with their fingernails if necessary. Other than that, this little auto is a fantastic pocket gun and it is with me much of the time.

I would really like my P380 to be reliable enough for carry. It was replaced by the factory due to all sorts of issues during and after proper break-in. The second one is far better but still problematic. it's a shame as the trigger is nice and smooth, sights are great, more accurate than my G42 and it fits in my pocket.

I don't know if my opinion is well enough founded, since my experience with Kahr pistols is limited, but it seems to me that the general problem is a combination of the design that requires the gun be made just right, and the Kahr factory not always capable of accomplishing the required quality. Most of the time, the factory succeeds. But this is why we get Kahr pistols that are annoyingly unreliable once in a while.

I can only look at .45, but if you compare Kahr CW45 with a Shield 45 or an XD 45, the slide travel is a bit too short, the feed angle is a bit too steep. This makes the magazine work harder to make sure a cartridge is lifted up in time while the slide bounces back. If all the parts are made perfectly it work, but the reserve for the imperfect world is not as large.

Attached is a picture of the collection of magazines that I accumulated trying to get the pictured P45 to work. In the end, only 4 of these were any good. What's remarkable, one of the factory magazines didn't work. I managed to produce one working 1911 conversion by tinkering with the feedlips just so.

Kahr / Thompson makes a decent, reasonably priced GI .45 clone. Its only drawback, as a clone, is that it has the Series 80 firing pin safety. That can be replaced by GI parts, but then you have to use a special filler piece in the frame.
