m60pro2.jpg I responded to an ad online in my area. A person has a 3inch S&W M60 Pro they purchased in December and have shot 20 rounds from. They want to trade for an AR or AK.
I have a brand new in the box S&W M&P 15 Sport that I bought 5 years ago. I got a pretty good deal at the time, buying 2 of these at once and just tucked one away with the intent to sell or trade it later.
The proposal is an even trade. I have a total of $619.79 in the rifle. I will have to pay a $25 transfer fee on the handgun here in PA but he doesn't need to pay a transfer fee on the rifle. From what I have seen the M60 Pro runs $679-719. I have a dozen or so magazines still in the package and he is going to give me $25 for a couple of extra P mags. I am also trading him 2 boxes of 223 (40 rds)
for a full box of Hydrashoks for the revolver The revolver guy lives almost 3 hours away and we are meeting at a gun shop in the middle on Friday. Here are pics he sent of the revolver.
Would you make the trade?

In light of recent national events, i would say hang onto your rifle and especially your high cap mags. But i too have a weakness for revolvers...,.... i guess if you have two rifles...

Yep, have another AR and so far there seems to be no panic buying going on. Also have a Mini 14. The new Sport II came out a year or 2 ago with a few more features than my older Sport model and area shops have them for $549.99 and they go as low as $519 .99 online. I have almost 2 dozen magazines so parting with 2 is not a problem. Also about 3 years ago I contracted the revolver illness. I now have 2 N frames, 4 K frames, 2 L frames, but only 1 J frame and its an Air weight 38 special. A steel J frame is missing from the assortment. I have barrel lengths of 2,4,5 and 6 inches, so a 3 inch is missing. This would fill both of those gaps. I really like 38 specials and 357 magnums.
If I really need to, I can probably come up with more reasons why I should go ahead and trade.

Well since you put it that way! Sounds like you already made up your mind . To me a revolver is almost like an expensive watch or piece of jewelry that i cant get enough of, well thats how i explain it to the wife... go for it!

Sounds like a decent trade to me; go for it. Be aware though that the tritium front sight on the M60Pro is so small as to be pretty much useless. Still makes a great trainer to your Airweight when you plan on extended range sessions, and a not to shabby small IWB/OWB belt carry.

Sounds like an even trade, or even a little in your favor.

As you note, your rifle is merely an unused spare, and a similar rifle can even be had a little cheaper these days. Don't forget to ask if he has a holster, speed loaders, or any other accessories he might want to trade for as well.

I personally hate driving, so I'd probably pass just for that reason. Otherwise, it sounds pretty fair.

The only other thing to think about is if it's truly something you want, or if you are just biting because it popped up. Would you be happier taking a hit on trade value and putting that carbine towards a different revolver on the top of your list? Or is that M60 just the gun you've been looking for?

I would. But I'm a sucker for revolvers . I also shoot handguns more and find it more fun than rifles. If you already have another ar15 and don't use that one might as well offload it. You said yourself you bought it to sell/trade anyways. I HATE having a good firearm sit around not being used, I feel the same way about cars, even classics (unless they are super valuable in both cases). If you buy a classic car or gun you should enjoy the dang thing, not polish it and put it away.

Fairly easy decision - trade a NIB entry level (but good) AR15 with no particular collector's value (with no dust cover / no forward assist) that you do not plan to shoot anytime soon for a nice Smith & Wesson M60 Pro Revolver that you will probably take along to the range to shoot the next time you go out, and that fills a 'hole' in your 'collection'? Sounds like a win/win to me. I would make that trade and not look back.

Hmmm. I have both of these firearms. The Mod. 60 Pro is a really nice gun and I bought one for my daughter a couple of years ago for Christmas. The AR issue could be interesting. IF something is done on a State level, the proposals (Bloomberg's bill) would make the possession of any High Capacity mag a felony. You have to choose how you handle that one. Sadly, my AR and a round or two of 5.56 was lost in a canoe accident but my Mod.60 will continue to be a non issue with lefties because they "can't kill anybody".
I would opt for the Mod. 60 as you already have an extra AR.

Stay our of canoes

If your M&P Sport is the "original" with the 1:8 twist 5R barrel and melonite coating, I'd probably hang onto it as they are supposed to be good shooters. If it's the second Sport with the 1:9 twist (not to be confused with the Sport II) I would absolutely make that trade. You can buy a new Sport II or Ruger AR556 for less than you can buy a new M60 Pro, and then you'll have an AR with a forward assist and dust cover.

In a word, YES! I love messing with ars, but that revolver will continue to be more valuable than the ar, even if we have another ban. Plus they are a lot more fun to shoot than a plain jane ar that you already have one of. Sounds like a fair trade, I'd do it.

Political/legal system aside, yes I would make that trade.

Monetarily, rifle worth 550ish now revolver worth 650ish now, yes I would make that trade.

FUNctionally since you have an identical rifle, and I assume not an identical revolver, yes I would make that trade.

With current political mess your rifle is a lottery ticket. Is your rifle/accessories going to be worth more, less, the same, that’s up for debate, but only time will tell. For this reason alone I would bank on the rifle value being static and the revolver value dropping a bit (rush for semiautos if a ban comes will push autoloader prices up and deflate the manual action guns, this is worst likely case for both guns) so your rifle stays in the 550ish range and the revolver drops to 600. Still a go on that trade.

So all things considered I think it’s a go unless your playing the lottery on that rifle. So you have to ask yourself one question...do i feel lucky? Well, do ya, punk?

Its the 1:9 twist barreled version. If it was the 1:8 twist 5R I would be keeping it
