The one and only AO M1 Carbine I had was a complete and utter piece of junk. Even after two trips to the factory (each taking many months and one on my dime) it is completely unreliable with any magazine and ammo. The quality is simply atrocious.

I remember being slightly tempted by one of their Thompsons, but after the carbine experience, I will not buy anything made by them. I realize that one rifle isn't indicative of them all, but it appears I'm not alone in this experience. And once bitten, twice shy.

I've never understood how an Aluminum and plastic rifle with a 16" barrel is heavier than a steel and wood rifle with an 18" barrel.

I'm not sure what my 300 Blackout AR-15 weighs, but it has a fairly heavy barrel. It is not heavy, but not 5 pounds by any stretch.

With a 16" slender barrel, I'm sure it might be flirting with 5-6 pound weight without ammunition particularly if you don't hang all the "Mall Ninja" accessories on the rifle.

With an M1 Carbine, there is not alot of steel, particularly in the barrel, so it does not weigh much.

When Springfield Armory (the recent company) tried to build M1 Garands they never seemed to turn out very well.

Off topic a bit, I'd kind of like to have one of these Garands regardless of reliability to go with my USGI collection. Something about the 7,000,000 range serial numbers. (FYI, USGI Garand serial numbers ended in the very low 6,000,000 range)
