My two favorite grips on my .44 CA Bulldog are not the factory rubber ones.
I prefer the Pachmayr Compaq

"Compaq"!
That's the name I was trying to remember. One of the most perfect grip-gun pairings that I've ever experienced.
As noted, better than the original rubbers and worlds ahead of the several alternatives in wood that I've tried.

Todd.

Thanks for the heads up. I'll see what I think when I shoot my .41 Mag Charter (it arrives tomorrow) and might get a set if it's too painful.

I migrated in the mostly opposite direction on the Pitbull 45. The original rubber grips hurt to shoot and I found wood grips that fill my hands better and thus ameliorate the recoil.

P.S. These are "NOS" ("New Old Stock") made by a defunct company "Custom Wood". They were packaged into a nice box with a foam insert that became completely dry and crumbled at the touch. Probably sat in a warehouse for 20 years before someone put them on eBay.

Went from the wood to the CA rubber on my Classic 3" and helped a lot. The wood ones had a brutal bite. Might try Compacs, but like the slimmer CA rubber grips.
