Are you in Big Foot Country?
Nah. I am northern CA, just not THAT northern.

I don't carry for bigfoot or bears (I have the meanest horse in these parts and a whip).
Two legged critters is what concerns me the most.

Its more of a "better have it and not need it, than need it and not have it."

And 45 Colt gives me lots of cartridge options.

Plus its FUN.

6” stainless Ruger GP100 357 magnum. It’s my sidearm while deer hunting. For longer shots I use my rifle, but I’ve taken a few with the Ruger within 75 yards.

About 20 years ago when we had some rabid raccoons around I carried a 22 cal. S&W 2206 in the woods. Saw one this summer that was acting pretty odd and now there's this .22 Ruger Single Six Convertible to accompany me in case I run into another weird one again and it wants to approach me in broad daylight. IMG_2098.JPG Has the 22LR cylinder in it as that would be sufficient for critters that size at closer ranges. Had the 22 magnum cylinder in it when the photo was taken.

Man, that looks lush. Recent photo?

No that is several years old, but it is that green or greener this summer. Best year in the last 18.

That grass is at least 2" tall. :uhoh:

For revolvers, if I'm not hunting and just hiking around the woods on my land here in Mn, Ruger Single Six is my hands down favorite woods gun. No real threats so .22lr does just fine.

I lied, two weeks ago there was a very real threat in my field. A small black object that my lab sprinted to on our daily walk. I seen him go up, then dart away. I figured gotta be a skunk. Dog ran up to me and yup, skunk sprayed my lab directly in the head. But the young dog started back to the skunk for a second peek but i heeled him and shot the skunk. Needless to say the scent finally went away a few days ago after all the clensing tricks.

Ramble. Single Six.

My favorite is my 4" M19-3. It carries wonderfully, shoots excellently, and has plenty of power on tap for anything I'm likely to encounter in my part of the country.

As much as I like my 686, it's much shot, carried little. The M19 is the opposite but it's just as good a shooter.

either a 5.5” ruger single six loaded with 22wmr (with 22lr in the pack) or a ruger bearcat in a fanny pack. if im wearing gloves in cold weather then a trigger guardless bond arms derringer.

ruger_redhawk.jpg Favorite camp/woods revolver is my Ruger Redhawk in .44 Mag with the 5.5" barrel and after market grips.

The shoulder holster holds twelve cartridges on its offside. The cartridge holder is loaded with Hornaday XTP 300gr and Buffalo Bore 340gr rounds.

Around home and on the occasional Home Depot / Walmart / likker store run, I EDC a new 2017 Colt Cobra 38 +P loaded with a snake shot indexed up next, followed by 5 Buffalo Bore 38 Special +P 158 grain hard cast SWC “Outdoorsman” loads. When going to town, I swap out with six 158 grain JHP antipersonnel loads. I really like this baby so much, I’m Getting one of the 2018 DAO Night Cobras for dress-up go to town to replace my M&P 340 J-Frame. Plan on picking it up either today or tomorrow. Already got a holster for it.

When ridge walking in spring / summer / early fall, I pack a Ruger GP100 Match Champion loaded with CCI shot shell followed by five Buffalo Bore 180 grain hard cast RNFP-GC 357 Magnums. It is carried in a Diamond D Guides Choice Chest Rig with ammo slides and speed loader carrier. This will handle anything around me.

My Colt. I wear it in an OWB open top pancake holster.

Two different things, I think. For camping, I always leaned toward a good .22 revolver. For woods carry (I lived in the NE Washington woods for 19 years) I carried a 4 inch S&W Model 29. A few weeks after we moved up there I faced off with a 500+ pound black bear at about 6 feet over a 33 gal can of dog food. I had a .357 loaded with people loads which I was not about to wound this bear with. I shot right next to his ear and he backed off into the woods, he returned several times and we went through this routine 4 more times. The last time he was approaching noisily from the east and I put my last shot near him. That was our last close encounter with him. He killed one of our neighbors German Shepard dogs and maimed the other one time. He was much hunted but never killed. The old bugger used to get to the choicest berry bushes just before we were going to pick them.

My farm-/woods-wandering revolvers are vintage .32-20 Colts (5" Police Positive Specials, Official Police, Army Specials) or S&Ws (6" M1905s).

I can't hardly walk, much less hike any more, but I still enjoy collecting the kit for it.

I think my little .32WCF Police Positive, along with my Win 92 in the same caliber would be ideal, and light. Put the rifle in a scabbard on my back.

With my cast bullets they'd put rabbit on the fire and discourage any coyotes from sharing our oxygen. I wouldn't feel unarmed against a two legged varmint either.

I am in the woods alot, and even the dismal swamp and quite a few bears. Mostly I carry my LCR9mm. Light weight, like the ballistics. Over the decades I have encounter many snakes, Rattlers, Copperheads, Moccasins etc.Yet never had the need to kill one.And would do everything possible not to kill one.
I carry the LCR because I am more wary of the two legged vermin that I might encounter deep in the woods rather than anything the area I live in has to offer from nature.
Of course in Grizzly country that would be a different ball game.

Unless one loves rodents killing snakes makes no sense.

To answer original question my is model 940. Its the only revolver I own.
