A well meaning relative have me this gift when I came home from the hospital.

It is an inexpensive United cutlery assisted opener. Textured Aluminium scales. Steel is 440B but it seems to be sharp and holds an edge so the heat treat might be decent. They can be bought from $11 to $16 on line.

It is no where near the quality of my Spydercos, Benchmade, or even my CRKT and Kershaws, but it is acceptable as a whittler and some tasks. It will reside in the console of my Toyota.

A free knife is a wonderful thing! I used cheap knives to cut asphalt tiles, scrape cylinder head gaskets, and I never felt that a more expensive knife would do better. You can abuse a cheap knife, lose a cheap knife, and who cares! It's cheap.

I was terribly upset when I lost this:

And now the company is gone. Would not care if it was a cheap knife.

Slam fire,

You are correct it is free that knive will dig out weeds, cut hose, and do all manner of nasty chores untul it meets it demise or gets lost or stolen:evil:

I carry a United Cutlery Gil Hibben design assisted opener that I love and wish they still made them because I've about finally worn it out after a few years of what some would consider abuse. It doesn't hold an edge real great but takes a good edge and cuts things everyday (I work in construction/farming) that aren't really meant to be cut with a knife.
