"Ghost Gun" Arrests in NJ

NJ has laws against "ghost Guns", and 4 arrests were made during surveillance of a cocaine ring there. The guns in question were all AR-15's and were the first arrests under that law.

There was no mention as to whether they were 80% lowers or 3D printed, just that they had no serial numbers.
Someone at the Gifford Law Center, a gun control group, mentioned that some of the receivers were being offered in discounted packs of 5 and 10 and insinuated that only someone looking to sell them, perhaps illegally, would buy in that number. Some here might dispute that.

It was also stated that someone selling parts should realize that many parts going to the same person at the same address deserves notice. Again, people here might dispute this.

"There are multiple investigations into ghost gun manufacturers and criminal networks, Mr. Grewal said. But, he added, responsibility also rests with manufacturers.

“When you see repeatedly the same address and the same individuals at the same location continuing to order parts and parts and parts and parts for the same types of guns, some red flags have to go up,” Mr. Grewal said."

Of course we would. I have made many multiple orders for the same reason others have; group buy discounts. If 2 or 3 of your friends also want to build, it makes a lot more sense for one person to place the order, get the discount and pay for only one package shipment. Only a bunch of idiots would each pay $49 per lower plus $10 shipping when pooling gets you $33 lowers and shipping is split 3 or 4 ways.

See above. Evidently the people espousing or believing that nefarious intentions are the only reason one buyer would make multiple purchases have little economic sense.

They may have buying sense and do the same for other goods, but it sounds so much better for the sound bite to accuse everyone who's got an interest in guns. As far as they're concerned, they're probably guilty of something anyway.
 
Of course the primary issue LEFT LARGELY UNMENTIONED was the illegal drugs. The guns were there (regardless of style or manufacture) because of the drugs; not the drugs were there because of the guns.

No mention of the cocaine 'network'
No mention of 'assault manufacturing' the drugs i.e. cutting, pkg for sale, etc. ....'ghost drugs'
AND THEREFORE...no mention of similar use 'legit' drugs i.e. modern pharmaceuticals, even if only one line, to faint an attempt to be...fffffair...
Other various etc.

This grewell person stated that when YOU see blah blah blah- I'm not sure about the use of the pronoun "you". When that you is "I" or "me", there are no red flags or any other color of flag. The reckless use of pronouns just irritates me, especially "you". I also wonder how gruel is "seeing" anyone ordering anything, especially when these business transactions are presumably happening between individuals and a retailer, and the items sold are not restricted. And finally,: Is the AR based family of rifles the firearm of choice for shooting ghosts? I was under the impression that ghosts probably don't exist, but if they do, wouldn't they be impervious to bullets?
 
In today's automated world, I wonder how many people in a company like PSA actually see individual item requests attached to a name? The credit card transactions? Probably not. Printing labels, probably not.

Maybe in a Mom & Pop operation, but an operation like that probably wouldn't generate large or repetitive sales.
 
Part Deux of the story. A California parts dealer is being charged now.

"New Jersey on Friday filed a lawsuit against a California retailer that sold so-called ghost guns, or assembly kits for untraceable AR-15 rifles."

And "An undercover officer was able to order "all the parts to make a fully operational AR-15-style rifle" for $583.98 in February, which was shipped them to a New Jersey address "without conducting a background check, without including a serial number, and without a warning that the gun we were buying was illegal in our state."

Good grief . . . this is what that idiot Murphy wants for the rest of the country. It's bad enough that some credit card companies won't process payments for gun parts unless they're made in person. But now filing a lawsuit against a company selling parts?
 
I wonder (NOT) if they are sending similar letters to...any & all vendors who sell subcomponents used for home-brew drugs ?

Scales?
Various household chemicals?
OTC meds?
Baggies?
Boxes, paper sacks?
 
Also I dont imagine they sent a "fully operational " lower. That would have a serial number... unless of course they were finishing lowers and selling them which is then illegal.
 
The article says it was an 80% lower. Later they say a state police firearms expert was able to assemble it and fire it.

I think the article left a portion of the assembly out, like machining the other 20% in. I doubt any FFL would send out a fully machined lower.

Maybe just NJ overstepping the boundaries, and the newspaper making the story more to their liking. Why ruin a good story with the facts?
 
Good story = facts or points of view that represent interests of owner (s) or those that pay bills/salaries.

So, their u/c engaged in an activity which is illegal within NJ, to see if an out-of-state actor would become complicit in that crime?

Hmm,
Creation of an illegal weapon in NJ is already--ipso facto--illegal.
Creation of a firearm for sale w/o a s/n, is also illegal
Possession of firearms by criminals is illegal (probably doubly so in NJ).
Actions taken to "go around" or "evade" or "pervert the course of" justice are also illegal.
Collectively acting in defiance or evasion of laws and the course of justice is also hugely illegal.

What then is to be made even more illegal?

When new laws are enacted, they, ipso facto, must needs create new criminals. Which means crime is not reduced, but increased.
 
Gotta ban the parts and 80%. No one can build guns without buying the parts from a company. These are guns I found in a quick homemade guns search
