with a synthetic folding stock for $225.00 plus tax, not in too bad condition but definately used, I don't need it but I'm thinking of getting it anyway just because. It isn't converted to high cap mags, just the standard internal mag What do you think?

What kind of response do you expect to get here? Of course we're going to tell you to get it.

Then throw away the crap aftermarket stock and find a standard wood stock for it.

I nearly bought one or two of those when they were $69, and a case of ammo was the same. Nobody wanted a "junk Chinese gun" back then. If only we knew.

The last ones I bought were 69$ if you bought the case and the ammo was 59$, a few of us from work went together and purchased some, I still have 2 in cosmoline and 2 1/2 cases of ammo. they were a pain to clean, I think it still sweats cosmoline. Around here they run closer to 300 and up with regular stock

I wish I could find one that cheap.

A local pawn shop has a couple of SKS's with synthetic stocks. $350 and $375 IIRC. One has a 30 round mag attached to it, but I like the looks of the standard capacity one better.

No excess money now though. If I knew they'd be so expensive now I'd have never sold my Yugo that I got for wsy less that half those prices

Add one to the dogpile of "That's a good price for nowadays".

Almost makes me wonder what's wrong with it...

Do you have an SKS already? You say you don't need it.
I got a second one, mostly for the reason of having parts available if necessary.
For that price - I would probably have three as of today.

The fixed mag holds 10 rounds. You can use 5 or 10 round strippers to charge it, just like an SMLE, except they never made 10-round strippers for SMLEs...

Really, I sneered at the 10-round fixed mag too, but it turned out to be not-a-problem, even when 7.62x39 was a lot cheaper than nowadays.

My other objection was "man, these rifles are industrial-grade fugly!" But they balance and point so well, and you don't have to look at it when you're shooting it...

Go forth, purchase, and be happy.

Buy it, and wait for prices to go up. That's what I did. Bought a Yugo matching number. Paid $450 still had cosmoline on it. Bought it FTF. Put it in safe and I'm waiting. Eventually it will be worth double what I paid. Just have to have patience. And if for some odd reason the price stays the same. My son will get it on his 18th. 10 y/o now.

I have a beater SKS I got for $279 in 2015-ish and count is as one of my best gun purchases. You won't regret getting one for $225.

No hi-cap magazine? Don't even worry about it. With factory everything, the SKS is just this side of unjammable and indestructible - switching parts out is when the glitches start happening. As a registered Bubba, I know the temptation to go 2002 Tapco catalog mode on cheap guns is strong, but you'll be happier if you leave it alone.

Not all "plastic stocks" are 'Bubba's"........The Chinese made and issued a "Plastic" stock, of a red hue in color and usually a noticable joining seem from end to end and slotted for a blade type bayonet. AKA "Jungle stock" in response to the wood of SKS's in Viet Nam rotting in jungle conditions.

Durable enough that my daughter has hauled hers all over the Arctic hunting and not a splinter, crack or chunk missing has happend so far.

High capacity mags are a detriment to the SKS. I made the switch, but thankfully I kept the original steel one.

Check the barrel. Norks are chrome lined so they are probably just fine.

I found mine in a pawn shop 8-10 years ago, and it looked like it was at the bottom of a river for a while. A little rust, the stock looked like ****, but the chrome lined barrel was in great shape. For $110 in the era of Obama even this train wreck was worth looking at. I took it home cleaned it up, bought a different stock at a gun show and it has been a great rifle ever since. I don't shoot it much these days, but I'll never get rid of it.

On the topic of high cap mags, I bought 2 Tapco 20 round ones. They are great. I still use the stock one for the most part, but if you wan t a removable one, only buy Tapco.

I bought two of them when they were $65 each. I tried for years to like them, and finally gave up. They weren't particularly accurate and the stock was much too short. No good way to mount a scope.
I traded my last one in on a 7.62x39 bolt action.
I seem to be the only one who doesnt like the sks.
So be it.
To answer the question....nah, I would pass.

Almost sounds too good to be true. Can't evaluate a gun sight unseen. I paid 450. plus tax for my "beater" SKS back in Jan. 2013 and it's definitely used but unmodified. That was about the going price for decent but used SKS's at the time. They probably aren't getting any cheaper, AFAIK. Could you have someone knowledgeable with SKS's check it out ? I can't help but wonder; "what's the catch ?" at that price. Would have to agree with Armored Farmer and probably pass on it at that price unless it had a good grade from someone like a gunsmith who checked it out.

Not a happy ending, someone snagged it before me after all. It's alright though maybe next time.

What's not to like about a SKS?
I've got 3, a bone stock Norinco, matching numbers I gave $275 for back in '09, One I got from my brother-in-law that was bubbaed something terrible.
Finally found a Monte Carlo stock I like and after what seemed like years of searching, an original mag.
Recently, I picked up a SKS-M (Takes AK mags) for $400 OTD at a gun show. It's in great condition, and although I've only had it out shooting once, it seems to shoot well,
I don't shoot them much, but I like having them.
