Surplus .32 ACPs: Beretta Model 81 vs. Zastava M70

Yes, the Beretta is certainly an all-around better gun, more refined, better finished, safer with a round in the chamber, lighter empty even though it can hold 12 + 1 vs 8 + 1. Still, the Zastava is not bad and seems like something that, to paraphrase the old Timex commercials, would take a licking and keep on ticking.

I think for larger size .32's under 300 bucks, you can't go wrong with either. I went with the M70 because there are bound to be a ton of the 81's around in the future and mags for the Zastava can be easier and cheaper to get.

At this point I have do dog in the fight as to which is better, they're both better than all other .32's out there, except the Kel Tec.

Yup, I agree, which is why I got an M70 even though I already had an 81. One point that is clear from the photos but I forgot to mention...the Zastava is smaller in all dimensions but especially grip length and thickness and would make a better CCW choice.

I don't have a Zastava but the Beretta 81 fits my hand better than any pistol I have ever had (a lot) ... and that includes my Remington original 51 with custom grips.

I prefer single-stacks since I have small hands but the 81 and my 1907 Savage .32 are double-stacks that feel and point wonderfully.

I got the Beretta 81. Feels and shoots great even with small sights (much smaller than the M9). I would only add to look at 32 acp costs. You have to shop around, because 32 acp is pretty expensive compared to 9mm and 45 acp. Hoping that with increased 32 acp sales, will lower the price for the 32 acp cartridge. Keep an eye out on Magazines as well. I've only managed to see them on Ebay for ~40 dollars. I'll wait around to see if prices come down before getting a second magazine. Still love the Beretta 32 though, it feels super comfortable and is an excellent shooter with very mild recoil (for those that are recoil sensitive).
