Sometimes its not all about a successful hunt........

Yep, if you want to do a bunch of shooting, head for the trap or sporting Clays range.

Arnold Palmer was quoted to say " I love to get up at 5 am to go fishing, hated it to go golfing".
I am always a half mile into the swamps, woods before sun up. It is the most beautiful time of day and can feel God Closer than any church at that time when the darkness comes to the new light. It is refreshing, calm, peaceful. I do not hunt deer for the meat or sport. Just a excuse to get into the woods. And I like studying deer more than shooting them.

Unsuccessful hunt = no wildlife of any type moves or is seen....
Successful hunt = I was away from my office, and I experienced something first hand that I've not done before...

Extra benefits in ascending order, I'm with my son hunting; I see a game animal or animals (without getting a good shot so nothing fired); I actually bag something.
YES on rare occasions I have had days where nothing moved...they were when a storm was approaching, and the critters were all hold-up in holler trees or in some thick brush (and probably looking at me though I did not see them, and wondering why the human was "out" when a storm was coming. :D)

I agree with all posts, the woods team with life, you just gotta stop and take it in. Sometimes a martin chasing red squirrels, or a bald eagle soaring, maybe a Canadian jay following you along hoping for a handout. Its all priceless and free if you spend time in their living rooms.

I've hunted the same area for 10 years and harvested two deer. I have a lot more photos of landscape then game taken.

This by the way is looking Northeast The sun is almost 90 degrees to the left and low in the sky. The picture doesn't do the actual view justice. This is a rainbow of sorts with the low sun illuminating clouds. I have been to the top of the mountain that is highlighted. I'm considering having my ashes spread on these mountains.
